A charming place, but ...The reception is very friendly in this family run small hotel. The rooms are small, shower as well, towels are thin, cheap and hardly good enough to dry your skin after the shower. You can sleep with open balcony door, but expect noise from the nearby mountain street to start at about 6 o'clock. Breakfast: Do not expect eggs, cheese or sausage. They will only offer exactly one croissant (very tasty), and two rolls per person, accompanied by Nutella and jam. If you are not a breakfast person this is okay, if you are used to a good breakfast in the morning, you will be disappointed.

What a find - an oasis of pure relaxation.I can't believe the reviews here. For me this hotel was the best find of the holiday, just outside Grimaud in the hills it was an oasis of pure relaxation. The hotel is a bit away from everything, and a car is essential but driving back in the evening was a bit scary ;-) My only complaint is that we wanted to stay longer but they were fully booked. Starting with the staff - professional and very friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The room - yes it was small but it was nicely decorated, had a mini bar with enough room to add our own bottles as well. Everything worked and I even managed to use my Chromecast, something not usually possible in the chains, so had Netflix for the evenings. I've no idea what size shower people want - we had a full size walk-in shower with a range of nozzles including a full body shower panel. The pool - just the right size - clean and because it's a small hotel quiet. Visitors to the restaurant can use the pool until 4pm which gives you other people to chat to. The food - breakfast was continental and there was plenty of it - served on the garden terrace it was a great way to start the day. The restaurant specialises in Cerviche so if you're not a fish person your choices are limited but if you are the food is great. If you want the glass and concrete of the modern hotels then Hotel Athenopolis is not for you. If you appreciate the peace, quiet and relaxation of a small family run hotel you really won't find better. I'm planning a couple of weeks there next year.

Fantastic hidden gemI've been traveling to the area for a number of years and pass this hotel on every trip. Decided to stay here and did not regret it! It's a quirky hotel with lots of charm. Gorgeous pool and grounds. 11 rooms, so no overcrowding. Rooms are over two floors We had breakfast in the grounds by the pool every morning - a sheer delight. You can also have breakfast on your terrace - there is no formal dining area, as the restaurant does not open until later. Generous breakfasts. Not your British fry up affair, but that's not what I need in 28 degree heat, so abundance of bread, cheese, croissants, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juice were just right to start each day. The couple who run this place are great, very friendly, accommodating, and know the area very well. There was also a lot of information available at the reception. Cars are parked under shelter, which is needed in summer. The restaurant, The Heracles, is used by hotel guests, but is also a destination restaurant in its own right, so you might be dining with other locals or holidaymakers. Lovely atmosphere, with tasteful live music on some nights. Hotel Athenopolis felt like an exclusive, beautiful oasis of calm.

Hidden gem in the stunning hills above the Bay of St TropezWOW what a find! I have been holidaying in this area all my life and driven past this hotel hundreds of times but never ventured in. What a shame! This charming small family run hotel is a gem, the welcome warm and we were shown a couple of rooms (nice to be given the choice) a 1st floor with balcony & views or a garden room. We opted for the garden room as it opens directly onto the gardens and pool area and had it own seating area overlooking the gardens. The pool area is lovely, secluded and sheltered. To the side of the pool is the charming and intimate restaurant 'Heracles' another hidden gem! What a find, the husband & wife team offer outstanding food and the service was faultless. Although a little tired the hotel was very comfortable and our hosts were very welcoming (including Horuce the Boxer puppy!) Overall a glorious relaxing haven!

Delightful hotelThe hotel is quite a little way out of either Grimaud or Garde Frient but is a total delight. The staff could not do more to make their guests happy and looked after. A lovely and varied breakfast is available which will be brought down to the pool if desired. The rooms are small but not cramped and all have a small balcony or outside terrace. There is some road noise but aside from that it is very tranquil. There is a beautiful and pretty swimming pool, with plenty of sun loungers around and a number of sofas if you just want to read in the shade. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the wifi works well. There is an independent restaurant aligned to the hotel where very pleasant salad and grills are available so it isn't necessary to go out I f you don't want to. Loads of big beach/swimming pool towels are available. I would definitely visit again.
