Fine resortA large hotel that has the look and feel of a nice large resort (golf/skiing/etc). Our room was modern, large, and clean. The onsen was quite good, with an outdoor bath facing the forest. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Excellent! We stayed here while snowboarding/skiing at Joestukokusai which is 5 mins away by a car. The buffet - both dinner and breakfast is amazing. For an extra few thousand yen you can get all you can drink deals too. This place is so reasonable for what you get. The staff are excellent. We were a big, kind of noisy group but they catered to everything for us. Even running a bucket of ice out to the cottage at 11pm on a cold winter night. The onsen is good too.

Most high cost performance hotel in Japan !!We visited this hotel in mid June. Rooms is very clean. Food is excellent. The staff are friendly and onsen is very nice. The hotel is located in wood and has golf course. And the most valuable point of this hotel is its reasonable cost.

Very welcoming and efficientWe absolutely enjoyed our 6N stay at BELNATIO. The autumn colours were already on display when we checked in on 10 Nov 2019. We arrived at Echigo Yuzawa Station and took the hotel shuttle (reservation beforehand is compulsory) for the 40min ride. The hotel is quite deep in so we had a chance to enjoy the comfortable ride with some country scenery. The driver of the shuttle buses were also very courteous and pleasant. There was a Q at check in but it moved fairly quickly. Staff TOMOII speaks a little more english than the rest, so we were glad to have her check us in. She was particularly patient and helpful with my queries. Always ready with a welcome smile whenever she saw us on the other days too. Most of the staff are not as fluent in English, but we were able to communicate via my translation app (I recommend VOICETRA compared to Goggle Translate). The service level in this resort is very high and we were always served with a smile and welcoming attitude. We really appreciate the high level of Japanese hospitality and its really great to still receive this at BELNATIO. Our western twin room in the main building was spacious enough for the two of us and housekeeping did a great job. Nice toiletries in the bathroom. We liked the unusually Long pillow and firm mattress which gave us a good sleep every night. Wifi signal was good, Dinner Buffet rotates between Buffet A & B consecutively and we reserved our dinner time@18:30pm. I think it opens at 17:00pm-9pm with the last order at 20:30pm (this was in Nov). We tried the dinner once in the Western Restaurant IRIS as well as the Japanese restaurant BUNA. Our preference is BUNA because the quality of the food was excellent and the Pork Shabu Shabu (2 kinds of cut - belly and lean) was truly tender and delicious. Worth paying the extra price for it. The International buffet spread is adequate with some items better than others. (Our room was quite a distance to the Buffet restaurant but we took it as a good reason to have some simple walking exercise to work up an appetite and burn a few calories). There are nice paintings along the way. I think items on the buffet spread will change, depending on the season. We enjoyed the small pieces of steak on most nights. Except on one night (14 Nov) it was overcooked and tough, so we requested for it to be medium. The pork slices were nicely done. Potatoes and mushroom dishes beside it were tasty. The sweet and sour pork at the Chinese section was really tasty. One of the best I have tried. YUM! The white plain rice was nice and fluffy. Unfortunately, the rice cooked with mushroom was too hard and dry. There is definitely room for improvement here. There is quite a nice selection of free soft drinks (we enjoyed the ginger ale). We topped off each meal with the free coffee which went well with their nice spread of desserts (our fav is the choc ice cream and matcha cake). Quite a good international selection if you take your time to sample the buffet dishes slowly. The beautiful morning views from the large panoramic windows makes breakfast time so pleasant. The breakfast had a decent spread and we particularly enjoyed the Japanese style omelette cooked fresh by the Chef. The spread was more Japanese than western. There was also some award winning soup with a piece of crab and mushrooms. Very oiishi! Although we are not normally fans of buffets, we found ourselves enjoying both the dinner and breakfast at Belnatio. We just took our time and were so relieved it was mainly Japanese guests. Its always a nightmare when one has to dine with noisy pushy rude guests with unruly kids from Asia. Sad to say, many Japanese establishments now serve so many overseas tour groups from Asia and these guests just spoil the whole experience with their loud, rude and noisy behaviour. As a result, the service level has also dropped. We hope this wont happen to Belnatio as we do look forward to returning again. The public ONSEN in the main building is nice with both the indoor and rotemburo being a decent size. Towels are provided inside so theres no need to bring the room towels. Since we wanted to soak in private as a married couple, we reserved the Private Bath at the Annex 7F. Perhaps an 8min walk from our room, including taking the lifts. There is an extra charge to reserve it for 40mins. Toiletries are available inside, together with towels. The temperature of the water was just nice and we enjoyed our private soaks very much. When you arrive at the Private Bath, pick up the phone there and let the reception know your room number and reservation. They will unlock the door. Same when you finish, call and let them know. There are drink vending machines around and also a souvenir shop around the premises and lots of art works to enjoy along the corridors. Many will be surprised that we could stay 6N without being bored. However, my husband and I enjoyed taking it easy and walked the extensive grounds, breathing in the fresh crisp cool air. Since the food, Onsen and service was so good, time passed very quickly. Before we knew it, it was time to check out (11am) and return to Tokyo. We reserved the 12pm shuttle and took the Shinkansen at 13:20pm. To the management and staff at BELNATIO, We hope to visit you again maybe in a different season.
