  Could be better

  First the good things about the Astoria. The position right on the beach is fantastic. The views from the sea facing rooms are spot on. The reception staff are friendly and will help you if they can. The ice making machines on each floor were just the ticket. Now the not so good things. The hotel is stuck in a time warp and looks very tired. It needs a vast injection of cash, not so it makes it an ultra modern hotel but to make it up to date. The carpet on the stairs looks like it needs a good clean. I actually put back four stair rods that had come loose four days previous. What were the cleaning staff doing? On our first night when returning from our meal, we went to the bar. My wife asked for a vodka and tonic. Sorry no vodka. She then asked for a bacardi and coke. Sorry no bacardi. First and last visit to the bar. On the first morning we went down for breakfast. Not very inviting. We are not full English breakfast people so fruit, yogurt and toast is fine by us. But the fruit look like it was two days old. The butter was placed in bowl and looked like it had melted then reset and melted again. The bread was ok, but then bread is bread. Although we had paid for bed and breakfast we finished up buying fresh fruit and yogurt from the supermarket everyday, along with a jar of coffee, milk and sugar and turned our holiday into self catering. The rooms were cleaned to a point everyday but our cleaner must have been in a bit of a rush. The towels were changed often but when you have to go back to reception and ask for one to be replaced because it had rotted and ripped apart when used its not very good. The place Alykes is wonderful and we will be visiting again at some point. But will we be staying at the Astoria. I don't think so.

  Great setting for an evening meal

  We dined here twice on our holiday and both times it was a wonderful dining experience. They do a very nice, but limited three course meal at a reasonable price. The view is to die for and the staff couldn't have done more to please you. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

  CLUB SANDWICHES

  We have been here twice for brunch and can highly recommend the club sandwich first time little slow coming but the next time perfect service.. one of the best club sandwichs ever had and smiley waitress

  Just had a meal there - not a stay.

  Just had a light evening meal overlooking the sea which was very nice, the waiter couldn't do enough for us. Never faltered when we only wanted a starter and a drink. Nice outdoor restaurant area which catches the late evening sun.

  Not the best

  To say we were a bit disappointed is an understatement. We class ourselves as not being too fussy in our expectations, although the staff in general were lovely, well those in the breakfast room were, but unfortunately the repetitive selection on offer to eat was very poor and of poor quality, croissants that were still raw in the middle, a big tub of marge... No real butter at all, but then we found out we had to pay 7 euros a day for the air con which we had been led to believe was included. Also rooms very dated and unless you were lucky enough to get a sea view, the ones out front facing the road were stifling. Hence the need for air conditioning It didn't spoil our trip and Alykes has some great restaurants which I shall report on later.
