  Not even close to 4 star hotel

  The hotel is renewed and that is a good asset. The style, even so, is a bit outdated, 80's style i would say. But the hotel isn´t and it will never be a 4 stars hotel. The cleaning of the rooms was not satisfying. The floor remained not cleaned for the all week, sandy and showing the same dirt of the first day. The bad aspects of the hotel, definitely the restaurant. The staff is not very nice and some times we felt harassed by them. Soft drinks are watery, lousy, really lousy wine. If you go with half pension you are charged 2 for a glass of water. Even coke is not original and does not taste good. Ridiculous. Prepare to see staff eating in the room of the restaurant. Not nice. Food repeats very much in a single week - liver, rabbit and fried pork twice in a week and specially the way they cooked - lots of stew like prepared foods. Salads are always the same, no imagination. Deserts are conservative and even fruits tend to be always the same. If you are in holidays you like to be surprised going to the buffet. After 3 days you get bored with the food and specially the quality of the cooking. Breakfast repeat even more than dinners. Eggs are bad quality, not eatable. Rooms are ok, but they did not refurnished the itens that have been consumed, like body cream, shampoo, tea, or coffee - once again...4 stars hotel? The swimming pool has written rules but nobody respects them. I talked to the staff about the habit of the guests of reserving the beds for many hours without being present, but the staff they couldn't do anything. Its perfectly possible to be there at 9 AM, place a towel on the bed and come back many hours after, in clear disrespect for the other guests. The number of beds is not that bad but with such practices they get very limited in number of beds available. The reception was not very welcoming and very sparse in check-in info. Please review everything in the restaurant, Old and tired staff produces a very limited quality at all levels. Most amenities are paid. Internet is very good and available at all spots of the facilities.

  Nice hotel.

  Positives The hotel which has been refurbished was lovely, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful, our room was clean and tidy. Food was very good, there was more than enough and served throughout the day. I'm not exactly impressed with the key system, which disables air conditioner when you're not in the room.The air is blowing directly onto the bed

  Family vacation at Astir Beach Hotel

  We stayed in Astir Beach Hotel for one week. It was a family vacation with our 1,5 years old daughter. Upon arrival we needed to check in through the hotel website ( e-check in, because of this COVID virus, there was still always someone at the reception though ) Hotel was running with 50% now. Positiv thing was that we arrived at 11am already and received our room after checking in, we didnt wait until 14:00. Beach is very close, only a road apart. Beach set ( 2 bed and an umbrella ) was 6/day. We had to ask for cleaning if we wanted our room to be cleaned. We asked for every day from the second day until we leave, and asked to be done by 12am as my daughter will have the afternoon nap. Thats not happened every day, 3x they came around 14:00, knocking on the door really laud and came in straight away. We had a double see view room, the view was stunning. Unfortunately I have to tell more negativ experience than positiv. I called the hotel for a transfer, the manager said its for the guest who booking directly through their website ( even though I was willing to pay for it ) there are lots of taxi around the airport who can take us there. The other huge negativ experience was the food. Was absolutely boring, not variated! Did not had greek food at all, for example mousaka or gyros.. At breakfast been eggs ( all sorts ) beans, salami, cheese, cerial, yoghurts ( natur and natur with choped fruits) if chips left from dinner, surely have in the morning too, croissant etc.. every day the same. If a sausage was a leftover from breakfast, sure you saw it in the evening agan as Ratatouille! Bread in the morning was awful. We only once had a fresh bread, than next day and the day after it was horribly dry! Fridge in the room was extremely cold, and since the button was broke off ( I guess in every fridge ) I could not change the temperature, which was a shame as my daughter still drinks milk 2x, so I had to take the milk out earlier ( watching not to gone bad ) A microwave would be nice in the room ( or at least for those who is traveling with children under 2 ) Air-condition was a disaster.( free of charge ) It was only working when the terrace door was closed. I understand you need to save energy etc but the room is too small and the air conditioning is to powerful! Not to mention it came directly on us ( onto the bed ) did not matter which program it was on, or the celsius, was the same cold ( also we caught a little cold) I though I cool the room until we are on he beach or pool ( 1,5-2 hrs in the morning ) but the key was soldered together, so could not just take the key and leave the energy unit in the room. We only had one key! Cleaning should be more thorough, we felt the sand on the floor. They dont refill the shampoo or bodylotion. During one week of stay, we didnt hear a Greek music, but Jazz! or some melancholic music which was very annoying and depressing! There were programs in the evenings, (mini disco) with music from the 80s and 90s ( again no Greek music or nights ..) In summary: Positiv: The hotel has a great location 20 min drive from Heraklion airport, 2 min.from the beach. The best waitress is Poppy at the breakfast! WiFi is free of charge, and the signal is good everywhere in the hotel. Children play area is well-equipped and in the shadows! Negativ: Food not varied, no name plates of the dishes, always have to ask what is this or that, bottle of water 2.50 such as coke and Fanta too. Dry bakery! Air conditioning and fridge is a disaster in the rooms! Microwave would be good to place in the rooms, or at least in the rooms where is a small child. More Greek food and music would be also a positiv thing instead of jazz and retro music.

  Worst hotel experience ever!

  We came here for one week. Paid a lot to be in a nice place with pool. Due to COVID-19 we knew that there would be some restrictions. But this place... I would not recommend to worst enemy. To begin with - one waiter who doesnt like people I guess and doesnt even like to work in this place. Old man who serves only German people who buy extra drinks. In a dining room, there are 5/6 tables outside. When we wanted to sit outside, he told us not to do that because it is for others (bigger group than 2 people). If I come to the hotel, I want to be treated equally. After few minutes, all tables outside were occupied by couples - not a one family... Other staff members are lovely, so polite (especially mrs who serves in the morning and lunch - she is the boss!). Hotel manager stands at every meal looking what you pick to eat. Due to coronavirus they put your food on plate. Food - no sea food, fish is only thing that I dont eat daily in my country. French fries to every meal, same salads. Plus for fruits and sweets. 4/5 things to choose. If this is 4* standard, I guess I have to choose 10*... drinks in all inclusive are so poor. Bartenders (female and male) are really lovely. They can make good drinks but if you pay (due to hotel policy). I cant blame them for this. The breakfast finishes at 9:30 so you cant get more sleep. Thats really sad. To end with - the pool. Even if it is said that there should be no reservations, everyone put their towels. Now due to pandemics, there are just 50% of the sun beds. We had to wake up at 7:30 to book the sun bed. The pool is clean - one of few pros of this hotel. I would not recommend going there if you want to have a nice stay without being treated like worth less than others by some staff members. If a place like this wants to keep customers, they really need to change few things. Otherwise, it is not worth of going. Better book an apartment with pool or next to the beach.

  Reasonable for the price

  Hotel is nice, good location, practically on the beach. Clean. Food is another thing. No taste, despite variety. Waiters are polite, but food is very low quality! Located in North you should know it is always windy and sea with big waves! Another huge disadvantage is the loud music played by entertainment guy till late at night ( 11 - 11,30 p.m )! Don't take sea view if you want to sleep early, and don't take even half board! Lots of good restaurants in the area!
