Close to lifts and good Onsen

Stayed here three nights, and found it convenient for the lift. Its a large hotel that does not feel crowded. We were on half board - there are no restaurants or shops at Asahidake. Breakfast and dinner were overall OK with flashes of excellent - the fish we were served as special second night dinner was great, as was the salmon sashimi for special third night dinner. Baths were great - there are two bathing areas and the mens side and womens side alternate each day.

    Good choice

A good choice in Asahidake . Good size rooms . The duplex with 4 twin beds is good value but the stairs are very steep . A bit hot in summer with limited air conditioning in the rooms . Large dining area with buffet breakfast and dinner . A mixture of Japanese and western food . With the plastic food trays and most people wearing the pajama like onsen clothes rather than yukata , it did feel a bit instructional one flew over the cuckoos nest but the food quality was good . Large public baths both indoors and outdoors .A short walk to the cable car . Very friendly and helpful staff . A lot of Japanese guests which I think is a good indicator .

Solid place to stay for exploring Asahidake

The primary reason to stay here is to explore Mount Asahidake - which is a wonderful summer hike. Other reviews make the point that the hotel is large (hence attracting coaches) and a bit dated. But there are some really good reasons to stay here: * The location. It is a short walk to the ropeway, and the parking is easy and free. It is significantly closer than other hotels, avoiding a longer walk or the need to pay for parking at the ropeway. * The staff. The staff are only too happy to help, and even when their English is not great, really patient and helpful. * The food. It is really good. Often in large hotels the buffet is a bit meh. But here the selection is very large, it is frequently replenished, and was of good quality. Further, if you stay more than one night, they offer additional meal choices that are made just for you. * The hotel is clean, you can open the window, and had large inside and outside onsen. Downsides? A lot of groups of Japanese hikers were there when we were - so you will experience early morning groups walking the corridor with their bear bells! The dining hall can get a little busy, and the hotel isn't new. But overall, I would absolutely recommend it.

    Like coming home...

After a day exploring the wilds of Hokkaido, this hotel was like coming home. Evenings here are very cosy: we enjoyed sitting in front of the fire place in the lounge with a glass of sake or two. The buffet meals were good. Admittedly it was the same every day; but they counter this by bringing special extra dishes to your table if you are staying more than one night. The first night were were given some very impressive-looking grilled prawns, and the next we had lamb chops and a seafood starter: all brought individually to our table just out of the goodness of their hearts. Nothing is too much trouble for the very attentive staff throughout the hotel: impeccable service! It was a real surprise to find that they swap over the mens and womens onsens each night so that everyone gets the chance to experience both facilities. Nice touch! We also took advantage of their private pre-bookable Onsen for 2,200 Yen per 50 mins (including a rather titillating mechanical massage chair) . It seemed that most other guests were part of coach groups, but that wasnt a problem. There was nevertheless a more intimate feel to the hotel than I expected. The camaraderie was pleasant: some people from a larger group even came over to our table and gave us one of their leftover bottles of wine! All in all this hotel was definitely one of my favourite aspects of our Japan tour. Theres even free origami given out at the reception desk. What more could you ask for?
