Amazing Rooms, Wonderful Staff, Classy and Homey All At Once!I've been staying at a plethora of hotels in Japan over the last 3 weeks, and none have impressed me as much as this one. The only reason I signed up for an account on this website was to write this review. The interior is a beautiful blend of Japanese and European countryside aesthetics, and the staff are just as classy as the surroundings. Not only did they treat us well in the hotel, but they helped load our bags into a taxi and waved us off until we were out of sight. The beds were the most comfortable I've come across in a long time, and all of the small touches with an antique style desk, vanity mirror, textile patterned headboards, and art added plenty of little touches that made the ambiance even better. Common practice with many Japanese hotels is to put in a room card into a socket which turns on the electricity. Many times I've had to go without any electricity during the night after a long day of shooting video and photos, meaning dead cameras, phones, and laptops for the next day. Thankfully this was not the case at this hotel, and you are given the option to switch off individual lights or completely shut off the power. Every time I returned to the room it was freshly cleaned with plump pillows and fluffy comforters looking and smelling fresh and airy. The bathrooms were always sparkling, and grooming products were provided in ample supply. Eating breakfast at the hotel was a particular treat, as the food was not only delicious (you get to choose between Western or Japanese style), but it also overlooks the garden in heavy but comfortable chairs. No part of my stay was less than in any way and if I'm ever in the area again I will definitely escape to this tiny slice of heaven whenever possible

Royal SuiteWe booked the Royal Suite as we wanted a larger smoking room. Well, thats what we got. We were happy with the room especially the size and the fact that it had openable windows. Other than that, everything was quite mediocre. The furniture is old and the mattress on the bed is the most soft weve encountered! The refrigerator was empty and not working. However, staff and service were good, good English and helpful, we were able to leave our luggage for a few hours. There are many pubs and bars around the hotel, convenience store is a 5 minute walk.

Nice hotel with beautiful gardenThe hotel is in good location, just 10-15 minutes from JR Kokura Station or 3 minutes walk from the monorail station. Convenience stores and restaurants are nearby. The breakfast is good and staff are very friendly. A good choice when you stay in Kokura.

Lovely!I stayed here with my son in October whilst visiting for the Rugby World Cup. The rate was very reasonable. It is a 1-minute trip (100 yen) on the monorail from the station so very very convenient. The rooms are very pretty - much like an old English boutique hotel. The beds are comfy and the pillows are amazing. There is a beautiful Japanese garden which you can walk around and the staff were setting up for a wedding there. There are several convenience stores within a few minutes' walk so you can get dinner, breakfast, snacks etc. The only disappointing thing is that my son was not allowed to play the piano. I would definitely stay here again.

The only hotel with a (beautifully maintained) garden in KokuraArt Hotel New Tagawa impressed me with its 100-year-old garden and fantastic services. My first stay was 5 years ago and I like New Tagawa so much that I keep asking my wife (who is acting as my Japanese interface) to book it almost every time we are in Kokura. The last time we stayed there was in May-June this year for about one month. Facilities were closed due to COVID-19 when we arrived but they reopened during our stay, not entirely though. We had the beautifully maintained garden for ourselves, sharing it only with a cat. The staff was as friendly as ever. Five years ago, while staying in this hotel with my wife and my parents, I made a friend among the staff, who is still on my Facebook friend list. Everyone in this hotel is so welcoming and friendly, in a unique way even for Japanese standards. One thing I enjoyed in the past but not on my latest visit (due to COVID) was the weddings which I could see while having lunch in the restaurant or while having a dessert and/or drink in the hotels cafeteria. The food is also great and the single tip I could offer is to select the Japanese breakfast rather than the western one and to try the sake (hot or cold) at dinner time instead of the wine. I hope the hotel will be able to keep the high-quality standards it has because I wish to return many times.
