Notable!

We had a great stay.My friend and I stayed one night at Guesthouse Arsenis, and had a wonderful time. We arrived late afternoon on a Sunday, and Costas, who runs the hotel with his mother, was a great and helpful host. He checked us in, then jumped on his scooter and took us up to Holy Trinity Monastery in time for us to see it before it closed for the day (It is closed to the public on Monday, so this was our only chance to see it.) He invited us to join in the dinner his mother prepares, but we declined because we were tired after a long drive and the tour. We also thought the price was a little high, and, as we still had food in our cooler, we opted to sit on the rooms balcony and enjoy ourselves with that as we watched the sun set. The balcony view alone is worth a stay at the hotel. Linn lost a screw in her glasses, so when we checked out, we asked Costas if he knew of a local optometrist. Once again, he hopped on his scooter and took us into town, got Linn sorted out, and then treated us to coffee at a local cafe. He would not even allow us to pay for his coffee. The way in which we were treated by Costas is in stark contrast to the descriptions I've read in the less flattering reviews posted here. As far as the accommodations are concerned, our room was small, but comfortable. The beds were good, linens clean, and bathroom/shower in good working order. Again, the balcony view was spectacular. I would certainly recommend this place to others.

Cheap - uncomfortable and lousy foodBest I can say is you get what you pay for. Costas met us at the entrance with the most fish-like handshake wearing a dirty shirt which he was still wearing the next morning. We had reserved the room through booking.com so he was expecting us. He offered us dinner which he said is prepared by his mother, stating it is excellent food made there, not from a store. We decided to take him up on the 11 meal per person and what a disappointment. Sausage, a skewer of tough and unseasoned lamb and French fries were accompanied by the worst Greek salad we have had. The olives were actually inedible - crazy considering we were in the middle of a 1000 tree olive grove. Dessert was a store bought ice cream bar served to us at the table directly from the box. Breakfast, at an additional 5 each was similarly terrible. A few slices of grocery store packaged ham and cheese, a small portion of yogurt, a hard boiled egg and some ok coffee served with evaporated milk.. nothing special whatsoever. I will agree with many of the other reviewers that Costas was a bit creepy. His dad was present and had a lovely smile, but didnt interact with us at all. Poor momma was in the kitchen and we felt bad when she shuffled out on a walker. The room was spartan with a very hard and uncomfortable bed, tiny but serviceable shower and a lovely view. Close to the monasteries but Id say there must be a better option.

Perfect place to stay when visiting MeteoraWe had two nights at Guesthouse Arsenis and are really glad we chose it. Highly recommend. The hospitality shown by Costa and Panos and their family was exceptional - friendly, helpful and courteous. The room was very comfortable, had good air-con, a balcony, functional bathroom and was sparkling clean. The sheets were crisp and the towels were changed daily. We can also recommend the him-cooked in-house dinner - meat, potatoes and salad all just 11 euros. Breakfast was also good value at 5 euros. The best bit of all was the location - just a few kms from town in an olive grove (they have their own brand of oil) so very peaceful. The views from the balconies on all sides are spectacular. Stay here - its perfect.

Stay here! The views here are gorgeous!! Its just out of town on a olive grove. Right off the circuit you drive to see Meteora. The rooms are pretty plain but clean. The family that runs it are lovely. The food for dinner was pretty simple but actually some of the best we had all week. Its not fancy but truly a magical place!
