A Gossip to BackpackAmong luxurious hotels, it may be the best one with extraordinary equippment but it has the best service. Before we arrive this hotel, we unfortunately found that BOOKING.COM failed to book the room for us. We were so worried that we cannot handle this in our poor Japanese and if the hotel would charge us in high price without reservation. Fortunately, in the lobby, the manager could speak fluent English. She was very dedicated to solving our problem. At last, she gave us a semi-double room in 5300yen instead of 8600yen. It was a room without view but it was charming to two tired travelers. What's more, after we were bound to , she volunteered to provide much information for us. We were very appreciated to what she have done for us.

Service not good, staff disrespectful.Location from Oita station is a bit far- about 15 minutes walking distance, if you are dragging your suitcase. You can walk through the arcade, with a roof, with the weather is not favorable. When reached the reception, the staff was not friendly, no smile, and not very helpful. The accommodation I paid for included breakfast, but no breakfast ticket was given, which gave us trouble in the morning, and had to wait outside the restaurant for 10 minutes while they checked their books. We also found out that the receptionist also called home at 23:30. Who knows what for, because my father who stayed home didn't pick as he was asleep. There was a missed call, and the number displayed clearly showed the hotel number. We asked in the morning for the reason they called at midnight, and no one knew. My mother and I was on a trip, and unless it was an emergency situation, i don't think the hotel should call home. The room is very small, but basic. Table and one chair, small TV, fridge, hot water pot. Only 2 outlets in the room. Wifi available, but signal very weak and slow. Breakfast was buffet style, but not very tasty. It was good to be able to choose, but the taste was not so pleasant. I don't recommend this hotel, unless you had a VERY good deal, or you had no other options.

World Cup let downWent to Oita for the World Cup rugby quarter finals and stayed at the Art hotel. I expected to pay a premium given the influx of rugby supporters but the cost of the Art Hotel was very high (approx $1400 for 2 nights). For that I was hoping it to be a little bit special. The foyer was nice but the room was a shoebox. 2 people could not navigate the room with luggage at the same time. The staff could barely speak English and when we asked them about breakfast (that we had pre-paid) the guy just kept pointing to a sign saying it cost 2200 yen each. In the end we gave up and ate out. Certainly would not be recommending this place.

Comfortable hotel very conveniently situated near the station.Had an overnight stay here for the rugby after a day travelling down from Hokkaido. The trip went incredibly smoothly, then the welcome, the fans zone, the organisation and the fans transport out to the stadium were amazing. Well done Oita. The hotel was a little overwhelmed by the number of people booking in before the match, but staff were friendly and helpful; the room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped; and the hotel was easily found from the station via an interesting arcade - no more than a 5-10 minute walk. Would certainly stay here again if in Oita.
