Its the people who make it.

You can comment on the quality of the accomodation or the food and drink and that will give you a good idea of the stay you may have but for me its the people that make your visit in the end. I arrived with my wife for a two night stay on the 26th and 27th Aug. We were travelling around Kintrye celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and a friend had advised us that the Ardshiel was a must for their food and of course the excellent Whisky bar. We booked a table for dinner for 8.00pm but did not know that the restaurant was running the governments scheme for "Eat out to help out". We had already made our selections mentally as we had asked reception for the menu earlier in the evening when we checked in. My wife had spotted the "Dover Sole" and was very much looking forward to this. But due to the popularity of the restaurant on a normally quiet Wednesday both our choices were not available as they had been sold out and a number of other choices were also not available. As I was staying at the hotel and a resident this was at first a big disappointment but Flora the manager immediately stepped in. She apologised for what had happened but we both agreed it was a situation out with the hotels control due to the popularity of the dine out scheme. The meal was wonderful and was washed down perfectly by the surprise complimentary bottle of red wine sent to the table. Flora also kindly told us that she would make sure for our second evenings stay that everything on menu would be available. After our meal we moved to the Whisky bar were you will meet Peter who I beleive is the creator of this excellent emporium of whisky. You can tell that Peter has a passion for his whisky collection and is keen to make sure you get just the right whisky for your palate. The Hazelburn Barolo cask was superb. Peter was affable and friendly and we discovered that he was also celebrating his 25th anniversary. So Congrats Peter to you and your missus and I hope in these challenging times that you can get that Greek Islands holiday. In the morning at breakfast Flora came over to our table and told us to pack our bags..no she wasn,t throwing us out. She had learned that we were travelling for our anniversary and her girls would move our bags to a larger upgraded room in the hotel. So a lovely surprise to start the day. That evening we returned to the hotel after a day touring around the Mull of Kintrye and were greatly delighted by our new room. We decided again to get the menu early and look at it in the room but I could see that my wife was dissappointed as she was looking forward to a fish selection again such as Dover Sole but it was Smoked Haddock in a cheese sauce. In the hotel that we had previously stayed at Smoked Haddock had been the breakfast choice and this was her selection for a few days and she had also had Smoked Haddock at another seafood cabin. I made my excuses to retrieve something from the car and went downstairs to reception and spoke with Shona who helps run the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble and after talking with the chef she asked me if a piece of Seabass with crush potatoes might work. We kept this a surprise and my wife was over the moon when Shona informed her of this extra selection. It turns out that Shona,s daughter Helen was training under the hotel chef and that evening she was being allowed to run the kitchen solo for the first time. You should be very proud of here Shona as the Seabass was exceptional and my Orange Lamb tagine was absolutely melt in the mouth. So I was only there two days and I got to know some people that I will remember for a very wonderful stay and who will make we want to return. Many thanks to everyone at the Ardshiel Tom and Moira

    Excellent staff and service

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay in Campbeltown. We needed somewhere to stay as we were touring the area with our golden retriever in tow. We dropped into a business on the high street who was offering tourist info. He called the ardshiel who were able to offer a room. I have to give credit to Flora and her staff who couldnt do enough for us during our stay. They were exceptional despite the current context of Covid. Their systems and procedures were clear and helpful. The room was lovely and we ate diner and breakfast in the hotel. They made so much fuss of our dog that it made the visit so nice. Thank you for having us.

    Staycation

What a fantastic hotel. We stayed for 2 nights. Dinner the first night was brilliant, service was second to none and a full Scottish breakfast brought up to our room. We decided to eat at at different restaurant the second night and wished we had stayed at the ardshiel for dinner on our second night too. Really strict covid regulations in place, but doesn't detract from the relaxed ambience. A great selection of whisky and friendly staff and owner offering advice. Would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a great stay.

    Very enjoyable experience

This was our first visit to the area and we certainly enjoyed this place. Our room was very spacious, plenty of storage space in the room and the most comfortable bed, in fact I didn't want to get up in the morning. Lovely breakfast and dinner was delicious, especially the Monkfish on the menu on our last night. My husband enjoyed the Whisky menu. All the staff were lovely and always helpful. If ever we will return to Scotland, we will definitely stay at the hotel and 'my' room.

Lovely Meal, Lovely Staff, Lovely Atmosphere

We had a family lunch at the Ardsheil. Our first visit since Co-vid regulations have had to be put in place and we were delighted and put at ease with the set up. As usual food was delicious and staff could not have been more friendly or helpful.
