Very friendly and charming place to stayI stayed couple of days in Joyce and Dave's place and I would say it was one of my best experience in New Zealand so far. The house is very charming, the rooms are modern and clean and they all offer an amazing view of the valley. The tasty breakfast (with homemade fruit salad) is served every morning in the sylish living room. There is also have a very nice garden and two very cute cats who make this place quite unique. The location is also quite good (Botanical Gardens and a New World supermarket are 5min a walk from the house). Joyce and Dave are very friendly hosts and they are always keen to help and give you advices about your stay. We really feel like at home in their place. They also organise social evenings where you can get the chance to meet people from all over the world ! I would definitely recommend this place to enjoy Dunedin and it's region !

Arden Street House. What a fantastic place to stay. We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Very clean and tidy. Fabulous breakfast. The managers and staff were very helpful, even pointing out places on the trip to Oamaru to visit (which we did thanks Joyce and Dave.). I would love to have stayed longer but on a pre-booked holiday. Will definitely stay here again. Five Stars!!!!

Like I'd checked into a completely different placeOur experience was nothing like other reviews in terms of friendliness of the owners. Maybe there was something going on personally or maybe they care less now than they used to since they are looking to sell the house and business. We arrived to a sign that "they'd been called away" and to check ourselves in. No problem there. But 5 mins later the check in paperwork we'd signed had been whisked away, so it seemed they were in fact there, just didn't want to deal with guests. The same sign was on the door for guests arriving the following 2 days, so it wasn't even that our arrival was an odd occurrence, apparently that's the norm. Later that evening we were in the lounge area and Joyce (we presume) came in, but didn't introduce herself. In the 2 days/night we were there we never saw Dave once and Joyce wouldn't have been around for more than 5 minutes. That said, we were more interested in a comfortable place to stay than chatting to the owners and our room was comfortable enough. The bathroom was small with no room to dry yourself and glass bricks above the door meant a spot light shining on my partner in bed in the middle of the night when I went to the toilet. Breakfast consisted of 3 cereals, yoghurt, bread and fresh fruit salad which were plentiful, but only full-fat milk and yoghurt and only grainy bread which isn't to everyone's tastes. The house is on the top of a very steep hill and is about 25 mins walk to the city centre. This was fine for us as we enjoy walking and have no problems with hills/stairs, but would be a strain for less physically able people if they were wanting to leave the car and walk in.

Qaint and charmingWe stayed here for a conference at nearby Knox College. The guest host was super friendly and helpful. My room was huge and had a stunning view across the valley. Close to shops and the Botanical gardens.

Amazing digsHilltop house made our stay fantastic with its eccentric vibe, crazy artworks, organic gardens. Our room had a view across the valley. Everything is handy and eating is just a stones throw away by car or a 20 minute walk
