Highly recommend - peaceful and amazing hospitalityJen went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. Home made bread at breakfast was the best way to start the day. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay in Kaikoura, it was so nice having a spa and very comfortable rooms. Hope to visit again in the future !

Basic Needs Covered But Overpriced. As I read the reviews for this retreat, I was excited to experience it. In reality this is a fairly basic kiwi style B&B but it does provide the basics in a nice setting. The room was fairly tight but we did have a king bed and a single in there. The shower fluctuates in pressure and temperature, and the water backs up a little in the shower tray - but we were able to use it fine. We didnt use the TV but there was a small flat screen in the corner of room. The king bed mattress was awful - sagging and old, but our son had no complaints about the single bed and slept well. It is super basic - no toiletries if you expect those in a retreat, and the bedding/ carpets etc are on the budget end. The property was very clean in our view, but tired overall. There is a communal lounge which we didnt use, and although it had a tired feel it appeared clean. Breakfast was self-serve continental - fairly basic. On arrival there was no staff in the premises - we arrived late and dont mind the self check-in approach. They put your name and room number on a board in the entrance. The grounds seemed nice, well maintained and there is a functioning trampoline in the garden which was fun for the little guy. The location is only 5 minutes drive out of town so easy to get to and from. In summary this place meets the needs of those traveling through Kaikoura to do whale watching etc - there is limited choice especially in peak season. As a basic, self serve B&B it is very expensive in our view. The room cost more per night than our stays in the Queenstown Hilton, Christchurch Novotel and Wellington Hilton/Doubletree. However - Kaikoura has had it tough during and since the earthquake so I dont mind spending more there.

Fantastic place, great peopleWe loved our stay at the retreat! We made a last minute booking, and they were so accommodating with us, letting us have a late check out and use the common room all day. Comfortable rooms and great service, and the breakfast had gluten free items! We sill definitely go back!
