    Last minute luck

I originally had a booking for a different hotel (in a nearby village), which was not honoured (though I reserve judgement on whether the error was with the hotel or the booking site). Long story short, I had to find alternative same-day accommodation for 4 adults and a child, right on the peak day of the season for Greece (namely 15th August), which was an almost futile exercise. Enter Mr Vlassis, of Terpou Mansion. He was exceptionally helpful, and all the arrangements were made over the phone very quickly. As the Mansion is located at the edge of the village, he gave us very precise instructions (dully followed), and met us at the driveway leading to the Mansion (as it is tricky to find the exact spot). On arriving at the Mansion's parking space, the beauty of the hotel was not immediately apparent. But as soon as we followed the steps down to the main area, we were delightfully surprised. It is a two-storey building, a large section of which is original stone-built, and the rest is stone-dressed, with a very traditional feel to it. To that you need to add the fact that the view towards the sea is exceptional. The rooms are slightly on the small side, but this is to be expected in a traditional building. However, they were nicely furnished, and they were spotless and very well maintained. They also had free wifi, with a surprisingly good connection rate. The breakfast was served in a really cozy area, but we opted for the veranda, with its wonderful view. There was an assortment of items such as pastries (spinach filo pie, cream filo pie, bougatsa), breakfast pizza (pizza crust with an egg/bakon/saussage topping), as well as more traditional items such as bread, toast, jams, honey, etc. They had freshly made filter coffee, and also provide the utensils to make your own coffee (frappe or greek). There is also a large fridge, where personal items can be stored. Lastly, a second special mention for Mr Vlassis. As the village is very small, only the local coffee house was open. When we asked Mr Vlassis if there is any place nearby to have some dinner, he very kindly offered to cook (!!!) for us, even though this is technically a bed-and-breakfast affair. In the end we opted to go for tsipoura by the sea (a must-do in this area of Greece), but even so, this kind of service deserves praise.

extremly hard to find, but when you get there...

DO NOT try to find by yourself! I say that as an excellent navigator... get to the center of the village and ask for the owner. (do not take directions as well. trust me...) location is very nice and "mountainish" which was really fun for me and the kids, but is out of the beaches area - take in consideration. room is very well designed. really spacious and well maintained. looks like new! WIFI was a disappointment. really slow, and only in the communal balcony. view is amazing, it is like waking up to heaven. and the air is amazing up there. parking is 2 meters by your doorstep but very difficult to access and get out. if you are not a really superb driver, leave your car 30m down the hill. staff (owner) is really nice, poor english but the lovely daughter is taking care of businesses. breakfast is a delight! everything is fresh and baked at the very morning, great variety. would love to visit again!

Nice place with some negative points

pros & contras: - nice spatious common terrace/patio with nice view over the pagasetic gulf - nice atmosphere, owner is polite and helpful - nice "old fashioned" bed with a new mattress - furniture better than "rent a room" places - small bathroom and not so ergonomic room (felt like not having enough space) - not enough light in the room & bathroom (small windows, one of them was builded in), sometimes i got a kind of sultry ("suffocating") feeling - breakfast not so good: most of the offered food was not fresh or localy hand made, but out of the freezer (no fruits, concentrated juice with sugar, frozen pastries etc. - parking is problematic/difficult: you can reach the parking space through small alleyways that were not meant for cars (you cannot take the turn to the parking directly, but have to drive further in order to turn the car, if you find another car on your way you are in deep trouble etc.), the parking space is sloping/downhill and too small for all the visitors cars, so its very difficult to make maneuvers to drive out of it (the owner takes the keys when you arrive at night and turns your car for the next morning), the best thing is to drive to the mansion the first and the last day of your stay (for unloading and loading your stuff), the other days you can leave the car down on the main parking space of the village that easier to reach and then you can go up to the mansion (uphill, takes about 5min to reach) - location is good (nice view), one can reach easily Volos-city, the villages of eastern Pilio, but also the ones in southern Pilio, the only drawback for summer is that it lies on the mountains and not near the sea (but it is not so far away, about 10-15min by car from the nearest beach in Platanidia)

What a find! One of my favourite places during our trip

Having checked out early from an awful beach side hotel we stumbled across Mansion Terpou purely by chance when looking for a new place to stay. And what a find! Located in the charming and very local village of Agios Vlasios, Mansion Terpou offered a spacious and new family room with panoramic views over the sea and mountains. Plenty of space outside too, to enjoy a coffee, read a book etc. Breakfast was good, staff very friendly and the location offers an accessible drive down to the beaches during the day. A genuine and charming guesthouse/location to experience some of the best Pelion has to offer.

Well worth the effort to get here!

Once again, our host Vlassios and his wife made our stay here very comfortable in this traditional stone built Pelion mansion hotel, with its fantastic views! The bedrooms are individually designed with unique features from the local area and the beds are very comfy. The views from the sheltered courtyard over the Pagasitic Gulf and the entrance to Volos harbour and the airport were spectacular, being so high up on the mountainside and the changing skies in the evening were beautiful to watch. Although there isnt a restaurant in the small village, we travelled a short distance to the nearby trout farm, where we had a take-out and dined in our courtyard on smoked trout, salad, fresh bread and a bottle of local wine delicious! Another nearby café-restaurant offers a taxi-transfer service, which is another option if you dont want to drive in the dark and Vlassios is happy to oblige, if you would like him to make you something! Although car parking is very small at the hotel, there are plenty of spaces in the village where you can safely leave your car after depositing your luggage. Traditional stone steps (kalderemia) lead up to the hotel (10 mins) but a torch is recommended for evening walks up from the village. Well worth a visit!
