    Quiet, friendly and comfortable

Although this hotel isn't situated right in the heart of Munich, it was exactly what we wanted for our stay in September. It is run by the Hafner family and is excellent value for money, being traditional, clean, cosy and quaint - and quiet, overlooking a pedestrian walkway. We had a spacious apartment and it certainly filled all our needs. The beds were very comfortable, breakfast was available at the adjoining Cafe Fischer and the little kitchenette was an added plus. Gruenwald is located in a beautiful, semi-rural area near the Bavarian Film Studios. It is one of the most expensive places in Munich to live and the little town centre is gorgeous - maypole, traditional Gasthoefer, ritzy shops etc. It takes about 40 minutes to reach the Marienplatz or main station, but is an easy ride on the number 25 tram and then the underground, and is included in the 'inner circle' for the purpose of special day tickets etc. And you have the added bonus of church bells ringing (they stop about 8pm for a good night's sleep), great opportunities to eat nearby (try the Gasthof Alter Wirt - superb!), geraniums in the windowboxes etc. Yes, it isn't the Ritz, but it is a warm and friendly place to stay, where the staff wear their traditional dirndls (the women, that is) and you will get a real slice of Bavaria, rather than at the usual hotels. We're going back next time we are in Munich, so don't let TOO many people know about it!

    Don't deal with this hotel

We had an awful experience with this hotel through Veneer.com. We were double booked and stayed at the other hotel which had our reservation. We tried to communicate with hotel holzl prior to check in but they couldn't speak enough English , demanded emails but then still charged us the full amount. They communicated with our bank in german making it difficult for us to understand and yet they constantly emailed me in English. They are rude and harass, I wouldn't want anything to do with this company. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't use Veneer again but this hotels response was enough to make me warn people against it.

    We keep coming back!

We love the Hotel Hoelzl in this picture postcard suburb on the outskirts of Munich. Here you can have the very best of all worlds - the charm and peace of the Bavarian countryside within an easy tram ride of the city centre. We discovered the Hotel Hoelzl through friends and just keep coming back. It is well-priced, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and having our own kitchen on a long trip was just great. The hotel has been upgraded since we were here two years with new bathroom fittings, kitchenware, and a faster internet service. The Cafe Fischer alongside the hotel offers a comprehensive, well-priced breakfast in an ambient setting, as well as delicious cakes and lunches throughout the day. There is plenty to do nearby too, with forests and river just close by and lovely restaurants to choose from. The staff at the hotel speak good English and are keen to please, and the rooms are meticulously clean. A very special corner of the world to keep returning to. If you are wanting quick access to the main station, then this is probably not the place for you, but in every other respect it's a winner.

    Nice and quiet hotel

Grunwald small town or better to say small settlement near Munich. In this hotel we make reservation over expedia.com and we were littlebit suprised that they don't offer breakfast with bad, actually you have to pay it extra, and breakfast is really late, begins around 9 am. But we didn't have choice, because that was only free hotel near Statenberg see. Except breakfast evry other thing was pretty good. Hotel has big parking in front of the entrance, room was big and clean, lady came every day to change towels, room has a small kitchen and WiFi is strong and connection was very good. In front of the hotel is a supermarket wich opening hour's begin in 7am six day's a week, so we managed to resolve breakfast problem. Everything we can summarize as pretty pleasant staying.
