Good location, apartment could be so much better

We stayed on the first floor apartment with no view for 4 nights. Getting the keys was easy and the ride along the Grand Canal was amazing. The building is easy to find once you realise the door is in the alleyway. As we haven't been anywhere else in Venice it's hard to say how these compare but our opinion wasn't great. Our accommodation was very dark, really stifling and very noisy after dark. It is above a restaurant and the local area seemed to be quite lively with people shouting and talking into the early hours every night. The building inside was very ad hoc with some lovely old furniture and big ugly modern pieces. The curtains didn't open easily, so we had little natural light and both windows opened out into a tiny alley with no view. There was work going on right outside the bathroom and living area on scaffolding so there was no privacy at all from around 9am. Location is great for easy access to everything and the rooms were clean but we have stayed in much better for a lot less. Tiny shower, lime scaled shower head and just one pillow each with sheets and blankets. The place felt very oppressive. We slept quite badly each night and wouldn't return to stay here. Maybe the other rooms are better, but we were disappointed for £120 plus a night.

    Pathetic!!!!!!

We found it very difficult to find San Simeone Hotel, had to ask many people and it took us ages. We finally found it after buying a map and were led to San Simeone church!! there was a hotel nearby and we went in to use their wi fi to google it! The guy at reception asked me my name and typed it in to his computer and as if by magic it was there!!!! Phew, a sigh of relief, not for long, we checked in to a lovely hotel, but not for us!! We were sent 40 mins back to Arsenale, in the dark, to find , in a dark dodgy alleyway, our apartment! We were led to believe on the website that we were going to a hotel!! The key was left in he door, and we weren't even sure if it was our apartment because the name on the piece of paper was different. This was an absolute hovel, no view, all windows looked out onto other buildings. I phoned the guy that checked us in and complained, he seemed taken aback and said that it was a typical Venetian dwelling!! He blamed Low Cost Holidays! Dark, dingy, no tv working, claustrophobic everything! Nobody there to greet us, no breakfast, no recourse. We were on our honeymoon and I cried!!! Never go here.

    San Simeon Apartment ****

Timeshare Versus Apartment recommended and provided by RCI. RCI arranged this two nights stop over prior to a cruise from Venice - Extremely POOR!!! Advised to be a 4 star more like a 1 star for backpackers. Decoder to the tv broken, No microwave, 1 wine glass, no corkscew for wine bottle, showerhead ineffctive. EXTREMELY basic.. Check in, is in Ca' Nigra which is the other side of Venice and then you have to take a waterbus from Ca Nigra Hotel to Aresenali to arrive at the Apartment, 40 minutes boat trip. TOTALLY unsuitable for the infirm or elderly, owing a spiral staircase, which I took for as a fire exit not an entrance to an Apartment. Dragged cases up spiral staircase to an archaic bijou accommodstion. 3 good points. Clean sheets and towels, comfortable beds and close Saint Marco Sq. I definitely would avoid San Simeon Apartment. RCI arranged this Apartment for me prior to cruising, TOTALLY disappointed with this accommodstion when paying for timeshare quality and gettting backpackers quality!!!!

    Great location, fairly basic accommodation

We were advised that we might check in at 12 pm only to discover this was not the case We would have to wait until 2 pm as the apartment was being cleaned. . A shirty phone call to booking. com elicited some help as my husband had 3 broken ribs and my daughter and I were left with the option of dragging our luggage across bridges to the Ca'Nigra hotel again to collect the keys to the apartment which is nowhere near the hotel - a very odd set up. We found the apartment located down an alley as other reviewers have noted. Luckily we did have the first floor apartment with lagoon view- I think Reception noted how cross we were with the time delay and how physical difficulties with the luggage were impacting upon us. 4 stars? Ha! Rustic and basic. The " kitchen " is indeed a cupboard. The bathroom is clean but a shower curtain wound help. We were not convinced that the 35 cleaning bill was worth it as we had to dust the bedside tables and the main floor had crumbs on it and the crockery was stained too. The air conditioning works well, everything else works too. The view is great and so is the location.

    Expensive but well situated

This is a stunning apartment ovelooking the lagoon at St Marks Zachary. Entry is via a spiral staircase with some head-banging possibilities, so not suitable for the less able. There was a large lounge-diner with a very small kitchenette, and a double bedroom and small bathroom. All in all it was very comfortable. Wifi was free and good. As we've found in most of the apartments we've stayed at in Italy, there is often not a kettle and only small coffee cups. We always pack a travel kettle and our own mugs. Check in was at a hotel by the railway station so take this into account when planning your stay. We were fortunate to arrive by train but if you're coming from the airport you might have a bit of a diversion.
