Large rooms, great food and extremely helpful host

We are a group of four friends who were on vacation for the Easter long weekend. We contacted quite a few places in the Beajolais region. We finally decided to come here, partially because of the stellar review on Trip Advisor and partially because they are winegrowers themselves. The house we stayed is situated on the south side of a hill in the village of Cogny, about 1h drive from Lyon. The whole house was built and maintained in an environmentally-friendly way. There are solar panels on the roof, and the air is filtered in the rooms and keeps the rooms warm. Everything is kept clean and very well organized. The two rooms we stayed are on the second floor and are very spacious. The large dining room and the kitchen are on the first floor. The host, Ghislaine, is very helpful even before we arrived. She helped us make restaurant reservations and made recommendations for sites and places to visit. She speaks fluent English (she told us that she was an English teacher at school in Lyon.) She helped us plan our visit in Lyon and advised us on the hiking route in the Beaujolais region. We stayed for three nights. Through our conversation, we learned that their family has lived in the Beaujolais for quite a few generations. We got the impression that she knows everybody in the region. Last but not least, the breakfast she served was perhaps the best we have had for quite some time. It included several local cheese, local bread, homemade marmalade and jams, sliced meat, honey, eggs, a large selection of teas, milk, and coffee. She also prepared dinner for us when we found out that no restaurant is open on the evening of the Easter Sunday. Needless to say, her home-cooked dinner is delicious. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys wine, or love countryside scenery, or wants a peaceful retreat. The environment is very relaxed, and the host is extremely friendly. We recommend it especially to those who want to enjoy French countryside but do not speak French. You can count on Ghislaine to advise you on organizing your next perfect trip. Her kindness and warmth will make you feel right at home.

Wonderful stay, great host, great location

We had a wonderful stay for a few relaxing days here. Nothing to criticize, the countryside is beautiful, the lodgings comfortable and the host thoughtful and kind. We will go back when we have the chance.

    A Gem in the Beaujolais

Nestled in the pastoral, rolling hills near Cogny, surrounded by vineyards, Les Buis is an exquisite choice for a visit to the Beaujolais. The B&B is a beautifully constructed, environmentally friendly respite. The style of the building is modern and it is built to passivhaus standards. Breakfast is excellent and guests are treated as close friends. Ghislaine and Michel are passionate ambassadors for the Beaujolais and always willing to help with suggestions for restaurants and places to visit. Les Buis is located at the Chiras Vallee vineyard. Michel's tour of the winery goes well beyond the standard commercial winery tour. He provides great insight into the vintner's perspective of wine making. There is hiking just out your door and wonderful roads for biking. We look forward to our return trip.

    Paradise in Beaujolais

I originally wanted to stay in nearby tiny Oingt but I am so happy that I couldn't find any place there. Staying at Les Buis du Chardonnet for a nite was a highlight of my 4+ week french roadtrip. The setting was sublime...relaxing on terrace sipping their lovely wines (they are a working vineyard) and enjoying the view: rugged rolling hills dotted with vineyards I felt I was in paradise.I didn't want to move but I had not brought food for dinner (there's a fine shared kitchen)..nothing in Oingt was open. I figured I'd have to drive a few miles to Cogny but then my wonderful host Ghislaine offered to make me dinner for a nominal fee. It was amazingly good, appetizers, sausage and potatoes, salad, yogurt,, yummy little locally made chocolaty treats.I don't eat alot of meat but I gobbled it up. Everything was locally sourced. This is a very eco-friendly house. And ofcourse more family made wine. My room was super comfy with a balcony with that same gorgeous vista. But the best part of the stay was Ghislaine. She was so friendly and charming. And helpful...besides dinner, she mapped out a special route for me on the tiny roads I love with better scenery than the usual way. I'd never find my way without them. And she also wrote recommendations for my day thru Beaujolais and beyond. I've even kept those papers. Ghislaine made me feel like we were friends for a day. And with her large extended wine growing family everyone knew her: the woman in the post office, and a cousin at wine tasting center in Brouilly. I felt like I belonged. An enchanting experience, I wish I had stayed there longer. I wish I was there right now.

Delightful place in a beautiful location with wonderful hosts

This is a splendid place to stay. The location, on the property of a wine-making family of many generations, has gorgeous views across the valley and beautiful places to visit nearby. Ghislaine was an extremely kind and welcoming host, showing us around, recommending places to visit and offering us a bottle of their delicious wine. She is interested and interesting and treated us like welcome friends. The breakfasts she provided were out of this world - delicious fruit compotes and tarts, carefully making them gluten free to suit my diet. The place itself was very well equipped but not fussy, stylish and spacious and spotlessly clean. Thank you so much for having us and we hope to come back again some day. Highly recommended!
