    OK for a family holiday

The first impression as you arrive at the hotel is it is a long way by road from the centre of Todmoor, but fortunately a footpath gets you there in only a few minutes. The setting above the pretty village of Todmoor is attractive, and the countryside around is breathtaking. The hotel itself, however, feels in need of a refurbishment and the signs of the last one are that it was a long time ago and on a modest budget. However the rooms are clean enough, if basic, and there are a number of rooms with adjoining rooms that make excellent family bedrooms - even with rudimentary kitchen facilities in the case of our rooms. The general lack of embellishment about the place actually makes the hotel pretty child friendly - and there is also a kids playroom. Also good for the kids is a playground and the pool. For adults there is also a sauna and steamroom. There are facilities for massage and a few other wellness features, although relatively rudimentary compared to a typical spa hotel. We found the staff generally OK, especially if you were friendly with them. Not exceptional service, but for us at least (and our friends and children) it was good enough. Perhaps the most disappointing item was the evening meal. I noticed it was horrendously expensive if you did not have it inclusive of half board. Also it was buffet-style and not particularly extensive in selection or of a particularly good standard. Having enjoyed some superb cuisine in the Black Forest, this really was hugely disappointing. Fortunately the breakfast buffets were much, much better. We booked via Aldi, and as always the price was very good. Taking the price we paid into account - the evening meals apart - I would say we were relatively happy. It comes across as a budget offering with a little more corner cutting than we have come to expect, but we enjoyed our break there nonetheless.

    For families with children

May be ok for families with children, looking for an inexpensive stay. Others will probably not appreciate this establishment. An experienced traveller looking for quality definitely not, in any aspect: room, spa area, food, service, anything.

    Great family stay!

We had a family of 4 and a two-bedroom apartment and had a terrific stay! We had a full kitchen and so while the restaurant was very expensive we shopped at the local grocery and made dinner in our temporary home. The Hotel is in a good location for exploring the black Forest area and has hiking trails right out the front door. One night it rained and the kids really enjoyed the indoor pool. My husband even got in a work out at the gym. Nothing fancy and no working internet in the apartments, but we had a wonderful time! The front desk has limited hours but we did not need anything so no problem. I would recommend this Hotel to people with kids for a relaxing stay. The view out the balcony was simply beautiful!!!!!

Average hotel, doesn't deserve the stars.

We stayed 4 days at this hotel.Let's begin with the good things: the landscape is great and the views from the room are lovely. For the rest...the rather unpolite lady at the reception doesn't speak anything but german. The room was very spacious, but the bathroom was like one on those cheap motorway hotels, the shower isn't big enough to wash your head properly. Facilities were nothing special, certainly don't deserve a star for a small indoor pool and a sauna cabbin... But the top of the worst was without hesitation the restaurant, expensive, most of the time you could not find most of the items on the buffet (I cannot believe at 9am you cannot find any milk on a buffet!!), and for the hot meals... You will have a better dinner at McDonalds! Moreover they save on staff and in the morning it is sometimes difficult to find a clean table, so you have your breakfast surrounded by dirty tables full of leftovers. For dinner they say they have a salad buffet...please call it something else, having a bowl with red cabbage and a miserable tomatoe doesn't allow you to call it a "salad bar", let's be honest. If after all you find a good promotion and decide to stay here (just for the surroundings), bring your lunch pack with you and you will have better meals and at a more reasonible price. Conclusion: not a horrible place, except for the food and service, but certainly the worst hotel in years...
