  Dated hotel with appalling cleanliness

  We visited on the 30th of December for our anniversary. We were appalled by the state of the hotel. The interiors are very dated, the linens did not smell fresh and had to be removed, there were cobwebs and dirt everywhere. We had to shower with our slippers on as the bathroom and the bathroom carpet looked so dirty. The water glass in the bathroom had gecko droppings. The air condition didnt cool, and there were mosquitoes every where. Considering dengue is a problem in Sri Lankan, I expected better precautions. We tried to change hotels but as its peak season and last minute, there were no other availabilities. All of this is a shame because the luscious property has the potential to create something really special.

  A Jungle Sojourn

  I have just completed a five day stay in Illuketia, a return trip after I discovered this delightful destination two years ago. This house is not for those who prize sophistication above authenticity. Ive travelled fairly extensively in Sri Lanka and have stayed in many of the smart boutique hotels that it has to offer. Illuketia is not smart, it is simply beautiful. It has a faded grandeur and a charm that goes way beyond high tech plumbing and complex cocktails. It is a place where you come for dinner in your bare feet and where the owner stops to chat and show you the photographs he has taken that day. I will pick the Illuketia chef over any other on the island. She creates something wonderful every meal and you can pop into the kitchen afterwards to thank her. The rest of the staff welcome you as though to your own home. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Besides all of this,there is the garden. A paradise for birds in particular, but we spent our days watching the monkeys perform their acrobatics in the trees, frantically googling Asian water dragons, and speculating on the plural of mongoose. It makes for a very special time.

  Idylliic setting

  A unique experience. Individualistic rooms set in an original tea plantation hose. The grounds will leave you astounded. A perfect place to finish your Sri Lanka tour - just 2 hours from the airport but a haven of tranquility, wildlife, karma and luxury. Prepare yourself for bugs because that's where you are its part of the charm. We will end our next tour, next year here.

  Quite Exceptional - Highly Recommended

  I chose Apa Villa for the end of our Sri Lankan holiday to be the perfect place to simply relax... It was also my wife's birthday, and the Apa management stepped up to an exceptional standard - absolutely perfect.... Our only regret with Apa Villa was we didn't spend longer there - we will definitely be back, and next time we will savour longer this gorgeous timeless luxury..... It's quite gorgeous, the building, the interiors, the rooms, the views, the gardens - all feels like a very special private space set aside especially for you (which is is...). The staff are exceptional, anticipating your every need - the chefs too are quite exceptional, serving up delicious dishes which encapsulate the very best of Sri Lankan cuisine.... Everything about Apa Villa exceeded our expectations (which were high). My only advice would be to book for longer than you'd originally intended; it's a gorgeous space, magnificently run...

  Attractive Place

  Apa Villa is one of the finest places visited in Southern province. Manager Mr Nanayakkara and staff provided a very cordial and flexible service. However Foriegn Lady who claimed to be the manager was very much rude and disturbing for our freedom. She was always walking close to us like spying and instructing like a school. Once we informed Mr Nanayakkara only he discussed with her and later she did not appear. Apart from the lady,every thing was fine.
