  Best place to stay in downtown

  We stayed here for couple of day. Good amenities and access, has a attached parking space 900 yen per night. Room was small but comfy. Services are very good. The plus point: Its right in the heart of downtown. Great value for money indeed.

  Not as good as other APA hotells

  This is usually my go-to chain hotel because of its consistency. Yes, the rooms are tiny, but they are generally clean, the hotel is pretty much always in a central location at a reasonable price and the service is good. However, on this trip the bathroom was not the best. Rust (I hope) on the soap dish, something gross-looking at the base of the bathroom door in front of the toilet (I didn't look too hard to see what that was) and the room did not feel as clean as it usually does at APA hotels. I'll continue to stay at APA, but this hotel was not so good. For price (five thousand yen double room) and location, it is worth it, but one night was enough.

  A very surprised Japanese shower space

  This hotel is located at the center of downtown, right next to the famous shopping street. Car park also attached to hotel, with lift carrying car to upper floor storage location. The twin bed room is quite sizable. The biggest surprise coming from bath room, it has a nice and separate Japanese shower space, together with a full size bath tub, very unique among Japanese hotels.

  Tiny room but very good value

  This is a 3.5-star review disguised as a 3-star review. I came to Miyazaki for a conference at the Seagaia Resort and since the Sheraton Grande was extortionately priced, I found this place for very cheap with the only disadvantage being that it was 3-5 miles from the conference location. The staff is helpful on check-in. Some of them speak some English and at least one English-speaker is usually around at all hours, it seemed. The room is very tiny, which just enough space for one person to slip between the bed and the desk. As a solo traveler, this didn't bother me much. The bathroom is just as tiny, and felt like using the toilet in an airplane. There was a slightly musty smell in the bathroom, like the inside of a washing machine, but that went away when I turned on the A/C (like elsewhere in Asia, the default temperature is pretty warm by western standards). The biggest surprise was the shower, which used the same faucets as the sink and then used a lever to switch to shower mode. From conversations with others, this seems to be standard configuration at APA hotels. A few minor complaints but nothing too damning: one night I lost WiFi but it was back within 24 hours; breakfast was not included in my reservation and while it was good I'm not sure it was $12 good (you can get breakfast included for an extra charge); I did laundry while I was there (coin-op conveniently located on the 7th floor) but 30 minutes in the dryer never quite did the job so I had to hang things up. Miyazaki is lovely. It's very quiet compared to bigger cities in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, of course). It quite tropical, and a little bit like Japan's Hawaii. The hotel is fairly close (~2 km) to Miyazaki Shrine, and it's another 2 km or so further to Heiwadai Peace Park. I also took some excursions to Aoshima Island and Udo Jingu Shrineboth highly recommended. Since I had to get to the Seagaia Resort every morning, that was about ¥2200 each day, but as there were other conference attendees staying here, we could share cabs. It's very convenient to Miyazaki station for arrival and departure. This was a good, comfortable stay in Miyazaki, as long as you're aware of some of the quirks of small Japanese hotels, and Miyazaki itself was a great introduction to the southern part of Japan.

  Hidden Hotel in Shopping Area

  If you are into shopping, you are in the right area. My GPS indicated that we had arrived but as we are on a busy road, we did not see the signage until we drove by the second time. So look out for it! The parking is next to the hotel and it costs 900 yen as this is in a busy shopping area. As in all APA hotels, the rooms are small and functionable. Reception is good and had no problems whatsoever.
