friendly staff; great bar and unbeatable beach-front locatonWe booked a Japanese room with a private onsen. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station. The location right in front of the beach meant that we were splashing in the cold waters of the pacific within seconds from the hotel. The hotel enjoyed guests in summer from all walks of life - from young families and kids, surfers and seniors on group tour. The vibe was wholesome and down-to-earth. In the evenings one can almost guarantee non-stop chatter at the open-air onsen from the top floor. The shoju bar was very affordable and full every evening. There is a very family feel to the hospitality of the Grand Hotel which was friendly and welcoming. There is also a modern beach park in front of aoshima island and the beach park had coffee shops operating out of containers. We loved going there for coffee and ice cream in the day. While the hotel is rather dated in terms of its furnishings, the staff were friendly and helpful. English may not be widely spoken but they managed to call the car rental company and arranged for the car to be delivered to the hotel. The lovely old ladies waiting on us in the restaurants entertained our 20 month old son throughout our meals. It was a terrific stay overall and one of the most underrated areas in Japan.

Delicious japanese lunchwe enjoyed a traditional japanese lunch including chicken appertizer, miso soup, sashimi, brown rice with mushrooms and pickled vegetable. prompt and friendly service. following lunch we had a pleasant visit to the Aoshima Shrine. The mango fruit is a local favorite which we enjoyed.

Need of renovation...but enjoyed our stayWe were able to get a top floor at the Aoshima Grand Hotel with a spectacular ocean view along with a view of Aoshima. The hotel is a bit tired looking like it hasn't been renovated since the 1960s. However, everything was in good working order although I must've bumped my head (I'm 187 cm) on at least a half dozen doorways throughout the hotel. We got the half board package which included an average dinner and an excellent breakfast set meals. The roof top onsen, while tiny, had a fantastic view of the ocean. Sauna and a bigger pool was available in the basement as well. The hotel seemed to be a little overstuffed as it seemed like they were popping up all over the place bowing and greeting. The lobby has a display of memorabilia from the popular basebal club Yomiuri Giants, as they stayed here a few times for spring trainings not the past.

Nice place on the beachSpouse and I stayed here two nights in November 2018. You can tell this was a top notch place when it opened. This hotel is just waiting for a remodel and face lift. Great location on the beach (Views!) close to Aoshima Shrine (short walk). Super friendly and helpful staff. Both dinners (included) were impressive. Restaurant breakfast was very good. Buffet breakfast was really well done- dozens of items. Room itself, halls lobby need update.Flooring screams' "Replace me!" Bath in room was moldy. Only real competition is ANA Holiday Inn down the beach. Would return for the food, service, views and price.
