    Mixed bag

The place is a bit odd....Some qualities were quaint and comfortable, and others were odd or ignored. Nice fringed lampshades, REAL dishes for morning coffee, fresh paint and new tile job in the bathroom. Odd finds: sheets dont match and pillow cases are another print, no tub mat which made gettting out of the shower slippery and dangerous, only one wash cloth for two guests, no shampoo for the shower (dispenser was there but empty) and no creamer for coffee. Nice lake setting except the loud bar just a few hundred feet away. Good thing we were exhausted. No WiFi as advertised either.

    Lake side wonder

I cant say enough about Antons. I had a marvelous time. My room was spotless, and the owner Matt was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was hot and delicious, and nights were spent around the campfire. Close to everything. The manager Mike went out of his way to make our stay perfect. I hope Matt brings him back next summer. Highly recommended. Cant wait until my next weekend getaway.

    Good Old Fashioned Motel

As a hiker, I am thrilled. Matt went out of his way to help me. The location is lovely and my bed and room were quaint and comfortable. Who cares if some of the furniture is old? Thats the charm of a motel. As long as things are clean, which they were, Im happy. Not every minor detail has to be perfect for a guest to still get a great bang for the buck, and thats what Antons is. My stay brought me back to my childhood days of traveling cross country with my grandparents who always avoided the chains. I too, wondered where the cream was, but all I had to do was ask, and I was given a bottle. (Little creamers in the fridge would be a good idea though).

    STAY AWAY!

Let me start with the picture of the country inn shown, It is an empty, gutted , abandoned building! We stayed here for two nights in June, booked online and paid $165. It started with a phone call while we were on the road saying room would be open and keys inside, Strange but thought oh well. When we arrived no one around , other than people, who I assume were locals that lived there. The room smelled musty, it was clean but sheets were something from your grandma's closet, old, thin flowered. The lawn area was covered with duck or goose droppings so you couldn't even sit out. At some point someone did some work to the place ,( the bathroom had tile) but I assume they ran out of money. Price should have been $49 dollars, it was barely a step up from camping.

The not so Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Let me begin by saying that my wife and I travel a good bit and love to hike, which frequently necessitates lodging in some fairly basic accommodations. Consequently, we do not expect 5, 4, 3, or even 2 star luxury. However, we do expect things to work as designed and the property to be, at least remotely, as advertised. That was not the case here. There were so many bads that it will be difficult to include them all. I can make one good comment about this place, so Ill start with that WiFi signal was strong and speedy. Thats it for the good. Given the area and the prices of the few other lodging options, the pleasant sounding accommodations described on their website, and several satisfactory reviews on TA, the cost of this room for two nights at $283.00 did not seem out of line. However, we should have believed the unsatisfactory reviews. Even without the many maintenance issues we encountered, it was very, very overpriced. The bad and ugly starts on their website. It is TOTALLY misleading and just plain inaccurate in most of its information. The picture of the large yellow building implies that it is part of the Country Inn. This place bears no resemblance to any country inn I have ever seen. The large building is empty and, we were told, under renovation though we saw no work being done on it while we were there. The only guest rooms are in the two story, retro 50s style, motel type building next door. Both the website and the property are sorely in need of extreme maintenance. The website describes rooms where you can Let our feather beds lull you to sleep and awaken to a breakfast basket delivered to your room in a basket. Our waterfront room(you really see more boats tied up at the marina than water) with two double beds had no feather bed and there was no breakfast of any sort on either morning of our two day stay. The policy for holding a room indicates that We accept all major credit cards. A 50% deposit by check or credit card is required to hold a room. This is inaccurate. When requesting information on-line about availability, one must fill out an online form that includes your credit card info. Once they receive this information, your credit card will immediately be charged the full amount of the reservation. Their refund policy as stated on the website is unforgiving in that you only get your money back, less a $25 cancellation fee, if they can re-rent your room. Otherwise you forfeit it all. We toughed it out and did not try to test the accuracy of this policy, though I wish we had. Suffice to say that the website paints a MUCH rosier picture that you will find when you arrive. Now the room. Check in time, per the email reply we received, was between 4 and 8 PM. We arrived an hour early, hot and sweaty after some fairly strenuous hiking earlier on the AT. We were greeted by name by the owner and told that the room wasnt ready yet. We knew we were early so werent too surprised at this. We left to just ride around the area for a while and returned at 4:00 PM to find that the room still wasnt ready. We waited for about another 30 to 45 minutes while the housekeeper finished cleaning the room. Once in the room, we noticed that only two towels and one wash cloth and no bath mat, as noted in an earlier review, were provided (room accommodates 4 people). I found the housekeeper and at least got one more towel, an additional wash cloth, and a bath mat. My wife wanted to take a shower in order to wash off the sweat, bug repellent, and dirt from the trail. She entered the tub/shower, turned on the water (control was very loose and hard to adjust) and adjusted the water temp. She then pulled the diverter valve to engage the shower. When she did so, the tub nozzle fell off into the tub and water shot into the tub. She turned off the water, not an easy task, and exited the shower. I reported the malfunction to the owner. There were no other rooms available with two beds and complete repair of the tub/shower wasnt going to happen that evening, nor did it happen while we were there. The owner ended up plugging the spout where the tub nozzle should have been, essentially converting it to shower only operation, which was ok with us. That was the first of many malfunctions and should have been a clue as to what was to come. The next morning, when attempting to heat a breakfast sandwich, the microwave oven did not work. When reported, a replacement was promised but never provided. The room air conditioner cooled but for some reason did not dehumidify. Instead it spit a mist of moisture into the room along with the cool air, leaving everything feeling damp. On the morning of the last of our two days, the handle for the shower control fell off which made it tricky to regulate water temp or turn water on or off. While the owner made an effort to address some of the problems, few were corrected satisfactorily and no offer to refund or reduce the charges was made. I have no idea how any satisfactory reviews could have been posted for this property, certainly not recently since these problems did not manifest overnight. It certainly seems that they stayed at a different establishment altogether from where we stayed. I cannot recommend this property in any way, shape, or form. The lack of standard maintenance and attention to detail is appallingly apparent. In hindsight, we should have forfeited the cost of the room and found another place.
