Lacks privacyBe careful if the over-friendly host asks you to stay for a meal with no mention of costs. You will end up with a huge bill for an average eating experience. There is virtually no privacy and the hospitality is so much that it becomes intrusive.

Steer Clear! We made a booking online to stay at the Angel Luxury Lodge during the Marlborough Food and Wine Festival. We arrived in Blenheim and took a taxi to the lodge. On arrival there was no-one on site and we couldn't get in. Noone was answering the phone either. After our driver helped us find alternative accommodation for the night, we called the lodge to find out what had happened to our credit card secured booking and they abused us saying we were stuffing them around and they had no record of our booking. Every hotel was booked out in town due to the festival and it was only by luck we found some friendly locals who helped us find a hotel with a cancellation. The Angel Luxury Lodge was responsible for causing a lot of anxiety and almost ruining our dream holiday. Steer clear, don't let this happen to you!

A most enjoyable experience with friendly hosts! We spent 2 nights at the Angel Luxury Lodge in Blenheim, and enjoyed our stay. It is a very attractive Lodge, and the owners - Danny and Kit Young - were very hospitable and anticipated all of our needs with great efficiency. The Lodge has a spectacular view, the bedrooms and bathrooms are attractively decorated, and the Lodge is spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the breakfasts, and the Lodge is ideally located for beautiful walks around Blenheim.

Spacious location but lacking the luxury you might expect by the nameWe stayed here for one night and it was okay. But "okay" is not what you are looking for when booking a B & B with "luxury lodge" in the name and the price was as well in the upper scale. Taste is something we can all argue about. But as worldwide traveller, having seen many different luxury lodges or luxury b & b´s or boutique hotels in a certain league l have clear expectations and they were not fulfilled here - luxury is just a different class. There was enough space in the bedroom and as well in the bathroom (great shower by the way) - you have a nice view outside of the bedroom to the mountain outlines and can sit on the endless balcony and read a good book in the sun or in the shadow and enjoy the atmosphere and the driveway to the house and the house itself from the outside was beautiful, but the rooms were lacking luxury. Pretty run down furniture, the sleeping quality of the bed was okay, but the tea station was poor. There was a huge glass with lid for cookies, where you could only find 2,5 leftover cookies and many cookie crumbs. That´s when you start to think: So how old are the cookies and didn´t the last guest want them? Didn´t look nice. Then there was a quite old and very loud refrigerator in front of our door which was noisy. The toothbrush cups in the cupboard in the bathroom where beyond ugliness - something you expect in a backpacker hostel, the decoration was for our taste way over the top - the rooms too crowded with stuff - but as I said - taste is different. At the main entrance there were many pairs of shoes of the house owners lined up. So what impression was that - did we have to take off our shoes when going upstairs to our room? It made us feel uneasy. If this is the case - please immediately offer fresh house shoes to the guests or hide your own shoes somewhere else. If the host is sharing your house with guests you need to do compromises as well - meaning: Keep the house tidy and put your personal belongings - in this case shoes to your private rooms. The place is run by an asian couple, who was really nice, welcoming and friendly but the decoration allover was filled with asian kitsch. The breakfast the next morning was between okay and good. Very nice a quite big jug of freshly squeezed orange juice, then there was toast with butter and jam and as cooked meal scrambled eggs, grilled tomato and quite a lot of bacon. For a luxury lodge breakfast I expect a little bit more - such as fresh fruits, yoghurt, granola - somehow as well a healthy choice. I would have not said anything critical about this lodge if they had not have the "Luxury" in the name, as we jumped on that as the lodge looked very promising from the outside.

Not a lodgeRoom in someone's house. B and B not a lodge. Not all rooms ensuite. Remote area car needed. Certainly bot a luxury lodge. Freeview tv no Sky. Not sure who this would appeal to. Too expensive for what it is.
