AgedI stayed in this hotel for 6 weeks because I was studying in Shanghai and it was the cheapest deal. On arriving the staff were extremely un friendly, the receptionist spoke no english and was not willing to try and help me. I asked for good food in the area, they told me no. I also asked if there were shopping malls or a metro in the area, again they just told me no. Actually there is much in the area, a lot to see and do they just did not want to help. The room not only had cockroaches in but also had another but which was about the size of my hand with around 60 legs. The ceiling and wallpaper in nearly all rooms is either mouldy, damp or falling down. Its not uncommon that the showers, air conditioning or water does not work. In fact I found a mouldy bag of food in my room, it looked like it had been there a few months. The breakfast makes me feel disgusted, it looks like the place has not been cleaned for a very long time and the food itself i am unsure if its even edible. The place where they cook eggs is the worst, there is think layer of oil over the blog and the wallpaper is so dirty its black. The cleaning ladies are very nice, despite shouting to each other really loudly at seven in the morning, and do a good job of cleaning the rooms actually so are other staff, for the price it is ok, but i would not return.

Like some have already said 'AGED'Stayed in the Deluxe Queen Room, honestly the dirtiest room floor ive ever seen in any hotel, those carpets need to go. Bathroom is real clean though (only plus side) for the price there are better options in Shanghai and are cheaper. Didnt go to buffet breakfast so cant say much there (6th floor). (Wouldnt go back for a second time)

2 Rude Receptionist Await you! Cold water in the morning... Your choice!I was excited to be so close to the metro with a hotel in Shanghai for once when I arrived at this hotel and was thinking about becoming a regular stayer until I was rudely greeted at the front desk by the 2 receptionists. They did not accept, unlike most hotels, that 'Booking.com' was a legit means of booking a room with the hotel. Therefore she proceeded to make numerous calls to people shouting Booking.com and 'they don't have'...in Chinese which I understood. Then treating me with suspicion, she shouted at me about my passport by pointing aggressively and shouting at the visa. She did use her common sense which unfortunately was lacking, to turn the page and see that I was a permanent resident, to which her colleague with some common sense pointed out to her in CHinese. After the long and rude welcome, it was finally accepted that I could have a room through booking.com and so I departed to my room, only to find the window was broken and would not lock meaning that the room was cold. Immediately I got moved to another room, which to my horror in the morning had no hot water whilst I stood and waiting for a prolonged time in my pjs! Do not stay here if you want a relaxed time and a warm welcome. Albeit the room was quaint, but the tv/recorded channels (much like a Chinese Netflix) were all in Chinese and not even 1 news channel.

You get what you pay forAfter reading other reviews, I feared the worse. However, that was not the case. 1. Access - About a 5 minute walk from the Sichuan Road North station on the #5 line. Easy to find on the corner of a huge intersection. 2. Convenience stores - Plenty of those nearby. 3. Check-in - As posted in other reviews, the staff were not very "pleasant" by Western standards maybe, but they just seemed to be acting like Chinese to me. Our passports were tossed back to us, but I saw other kinds of tossing or goods and money at other restaurants and shops, so I figured it was just a part of culture. We tried both English and Japanese to no avail, but we really didn't have any questions, so no worries there. 4. The Room - We stayed in room 607. The carpet needed a good vacuuming and definitely needed to be cleaned. There was some graffiti on the wall in the entrance written in pen. The wallpaper was old and needed to be replaced. However, I was expecting this before I got there so it really wasn't a surprise and it wasn't like the room was falling apart. The bathroom was clean. Plenty of amenities. There was a hair dryer, but it wasn't in the bathroom, so think of it as a treasure hunt. Had plenty of hot water. The sheets were clean. The towels were clean, but a little holey. The TV was some kind of pay-per-view HDD thing with no sign of local channels. Although we weren't there to watch TV, it is nice to see local programs sometimes and just have some background noise when getting ready for bed or getting ready in the morning. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. If you expect something, stay at a 5-star hotel. If you just need a decent place to stay, this place will do you fine.
