Tiny Rooms, Mediocre Location, Skip NiigataThe rooms are SMALL, better options across the river by Old Town. Overall, I'm not sure why we visited the city... skip it. The Sake Tour is a loser... just a way to try to sell product (mediocre) at the brewery - a 1000 Yen ride from the hotel. Boring tour, yuck Sake. Stay in the city one day and then escaped...

Very enjoyableFirst time in Niigata and made a good choice staying at the ANA Crowne Plaza. As prior reviewers described, it was reasonably close to the rail station (took the Shinkansen from Tokyo). Centrally located with taxis always out in front of the hotel. Reasonable Yen within most tourist attractions, including the beach. Awesome shopping within walking distance. Staff was very personable and accommodating, speaking fundamental English. 3 restaurants on site; 2 Japanese & 1 Chinese, the latter was our favorite. They have an excellent breakfast buffet of International cuisine with a discount coupon. Their Sky Bar is worth the visit at sunset. We would definitely return here.

Unremarkable hotel, but parking is problematicThe hotel is fairly average, with one unfortunate exception, which I'll share in a moment. Arrived by car for a quick weekend trip. I'd arranged the trip fairly last minute so my first choice hotel was booked out; I went with the ANA Crowne Plaza as it was reasonably priced. Arrival was a bit rough. There were no hotel staff at the portico to assist with luggage or direct to temporary parking. Cars were everywhere, disorganized, and the drive up area was not well lit. Suddenly, a guy in a suit appeared and asked for keys to my (new) car. Given that the area was poorly lit and the guy had just walked up, it wasn't actually clear he was a hotel employee. I asked questions about the hotel, which he couldn't answer. He went inside (maybe to ask another employee about the hotel), returned and asked again for my keys. In the end, he turned out to be a hotel employee, but he didn't clearly identify himself and didn't offer a receipt or anything in exchange for the keys to my (brand new) car. So it wasn't a great experience and if you're arriving by car or will use the car park or portico area, you really want to rethink your choice. Other than that, the room was small and fairly spartan but comfortable. The property is old but some areas have been refreshed. The amenities were better than what I'd normally expect in the price category. Management needs to do more training on communication, organization and customer handling. Plus more lighting is needed on the grounds--if I were smaller / weaker or vulnerable, I wouldn't want to walk the grounds alone after dark. With these improvements, it would be worth considering but you can easily do better in terms of location and quality. I hope this helps!

Not fun to find hairBasics of hotel housekeeping: there should not be hair in the sheets or on the bathtub. I know it wont get me sick but its just gross. The bed was comfortable but the first impression lingered. I wont complain of outdated paint etc but come on guys, dont leave hair of previous customers on display.

Good and badI love and I dislike this hotel, complicated. Like - this is the fastest response hotel online. Since I need connecting rooms so I have asked all 4 star hotels in Niigata and this hotel responses within 24 hours, where other hotels took more than days or some dont even write back. Impressive Even the hotel generally speaking is clean. My sister is quite allergic to dust and she has no problem with this hotel. The hotel provides a wide range of aroma and pillows. Even though I think each pillow has only 1 stock in hotel (because when I ask for the same pillow they said they run out of stock), the choices are good Location is also nice. Just a short walk to McDonalds and convenience stores. Also very close to main shopping malls Dislike - OK. Bad thing. We have dispute about the reservation because they said they have to charge extra as they didnt process kids as occupants. They assume kids will not use any beds and they said if I dont pay for supplement then they will remove beds from the guest room. Ridiculous. I made the reservation through their official website and I dont see why kids are not counted. Staff dont speak good English. I always have difficulty to communicate with them in English. Concierge staff are extremely nice, housekeeping staff are also friendly with big smile on. Front office staff and reservation team needs more training When I said the room is clean, I found one of the toiletries was half open when we first enter the room. Hmmm ... I am not dare to use that pack anyway This hotel is not so crowne plaza style frankly speaking. But in a small town, Im happy with it and I believe they can do better further.
