A very pleasant experienceI spent two nights at Hotel Amalienburg during a business trip. I was positively suprised by the warm welcome and my clean and quiet room. I even had a small terrace facing the backyard. The breakfast offered all I needed (good espresso, fresh rolls) and much more. A bus stop is next to the hotel (~50 meters) and train and tram stops are within a five minute walk. I hope to visit again soon.

Very Nice Rooms; Friendly ServiceI stayed here at Amalienburg for three nights in August, 2018. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms are nicely arranged in some separate buildings. I had an upstairs room, and I thought it was very attractive and nicely appointed. The bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water and water pressure for my showers. The WiFi worked well. I was very comfortable in my guest room. This a is small hotel. From here it is about a one kilometer distance to the nearest S-train station (Obermenzing). That is your best way into the city of Munich, if you do not have your own car. Taxis do not normally come by this hotel, as it is not in a tourist or business area, but rather a residential area somewhat outside the core city. But the hotel is happy to call taxis for you. I wouldn't call this a suburban area, but as indicated above, it is outside the core or central city area. There are only two restaurants within reasonable walking distance, near the aforementioned S-train station. One is a Bavarian style restaurant with good food but spotty service; the other is a Greek place that was closed on holiday when I was here in August. There are two grocery stores nearby and a gas station that sells cold drinks and snacks. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel, but it is fairly limited in variety. Certainly not a big buffet; however, I had plenty to eat. Staff here did a lot to assist me, such as provide me with ideas of places to see in the city and the best ways to get to them. They did not have laundry service but still made arrangements for my laundry to be done. I sensed a lot of hospitality from these folks. If you stay here, just ensure that the location will work for you and what it is you are in Munich to do. The hotel itself is a comfortable place to rest and refresh, and you might save some euros by staying outside of central Munich.

Very friendlyWe stayed for Oktoberfest (three girls) for two nights and felt very welcomed and safe. The rooms are nice and the breakfast was good and fresh and often replaced. The ladies and the counter were very helpful.

Great little hotelThis is a lovely hotel outside of the city. My room was spacious (it was bigger than my first ever apartment), with a separate kitchen area, small dining table and balcony. It was super modern and functional and spotlessly clean. The staff were always friendly and helpful and happy to answer questions about transport etc. Its in a residential area which means theres really not much there, so no close by pub or restaurant for your convenience (the hotel doesnt have a restaurant). The S-Bahn is about 8 minutes walk away and from there its about 15 minutes into the city. The station (Obermenzing) isnt manned but the ticket machines all have a variety of language options so very easy to use. There are no taxis waiting outside the station so if you get back and need to walk to the hotel in the rain, not much you can do (you could try Uber if you have the app?). The road from the station to the hotel is wide, busy and well lit so I never felt unsafe walking it alone at night. The breakfast is typical continental fayre and plenty of it. Brits may find the variety of hams and cheeses odd for breakfast, but theres toast, cereal, yoghurts etc so plenty or options for all tastes. You can buy a travel ticket for the S-Bahn at the hotel of youre going to be there for 3 days or more, but they dont have individual single tickets (again, easily bought from the station machine for 2.90). I also asked about stamps and the lady on reception sold me some. The highlight for me was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the quality of my room. If you dont mind being out of the city and having to take the train into it, then this is a fantastic little hotel.

Sweet and cozy boutique hotelI stayed here as a solo traveler in early July for an academic conference at the Nyphenburg Palace right next door. I had a deluxe room, which had air conditioning (very nice during the heat wave) and was a perfect size for one person. It was very sweet and made good use of space -- the shower was right next to the bed, but somehow it didn't feel cramped at all (I'm not doing it justice). It had a great little patio, and there were other places to relax outdoors with a drink. The breakfast was plentiful. Adequate gym. Definitely check out the sauna (extra fee) -- it was delightful after a day hiking in the mountains. The palace grounds are great for a morning run, there were two supermarkets one block away, and the light-rail station was an easy walk down the road. Really delightful spot in a nice neighborhood away from the madness of downtown. The employees were very helpful despite my lack of German, and helped me out in a couple of crunches by calling a cab that arrived quickly. Would definitely return.
