    A very dissatisfied customer!

I booked 4 nights at this hotel (my original booking was for 3 nights, but, on reconsidering my itinerary, I decided to book an additional night). Both bookings were, however, completed more than two months before I was due to stay at the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was informed that due to a technical problem, my room for the 3-night stay was unavailable, but a reservation had been made in my name at another hotel. My additional (i.e. 1-night) reservation would still be honoured. The gentleman on the desk was courteous and apologetic, so, despite my disappointment, I decided not to complain. My main complaint now is that the room in the hotel to which I was sent was dusty, musty-smelling and generally grimy (by which I mean, hairs on the pillow, bathroom floor and especially on the rug; and cobwebs in various places around the room. On one of the days, no housekeeping was provided. The free wifi (which was one of the reasons I chose the Amadeus) was too weak to reach my room, so I had to go into the corridor, where the signal was much stronger. Only a trickle of water emerged from the hot water tap. In short, the room was of a FAR INFERIOR standard to the room in which I eventually got to stay at the Amadeus, yet the price ended up being the same. If any member of staff happens to read this, please go there and check for yourself (I was in Room 305). Regarding the one night I actually got to stay in the Hotel Amadeus, I was entirely happy with the room, which was clean, spacious and well-equipped. However, the man who checked me in that night was rude and aggressive (unlike the man I had met on the first day, and also the friendly younger man who stored my bag). Indeed, had it not been for the attitude of this man, I probably wouldnt have written this scathing review. With regard to the technical problem, this must have been a very localized problem, because I saw guests coming out of the hotel on each of the following three mornings when my tram passed by. I feel that if guests are inconvenienced in this way, they should at least be compensated by being given a room of comparable standard to the one they have booked.

    Very disappointed.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 10 years whilst undergoing dental treatment at a clinic nearby. I have always found it ok, basic but enough for my needs. Alas I can no longer say that. I spent 4 nights there recently, the room was very grubby, the bathroom was even worse. The cold tap did not work, the shower curtain was black and mouldy and the toilet smelt as though it needed a good clean with bleach. The tap was fixed when reported to the reception, but it should never have been left in the state it was. The wardrobe door was rotten at the bottom and came off its runners several times! Generally the staff were quite nice but one or two were very grumpy. Unfortunately I will no longer be staying at this hotel for any future visits and would not recommend it to anyone else.

    A very pleasant place

We booked into this older but well kept hotel, after returning from Croatia, finding not much available within the central city. The hotel staff was curtious, and the size and ambiance of the room was old world. Large dog and and chairs augmented a large room. Everything worked, and transportation into the city was convenient but it did take about 40 minutes via the #80 bus. The tie breaker was the price: very below market, luckily, because we spent more then we should have on Zagreb.sorry don't have a photo itself

Good hotel and even better service

I have spent 2 nights in hotel. The staff was very helpfull. It was my first visit to Budapest, so I was surprisend and very pleased when the hotel manager was giving me detailed guideliens and very good hints what to visit in town. The room was clean and the breakfast was fine. So, it was a great service for the money that I paid. One day I will come back...

    Mediocre Stay

This hotel could be very nice with some maintenance and updates. The staff is pleasant and attempts to be helpful. Our room was just ok. Refrigerator in room was very noisy, remote control for tv needed new batteries, shower head in the nicely remodeled bath was loose and water was spraying everywhere until I could get it under control. The window blew open in the middle of the night and after that we couldnt get it to stay closed. We finally propped it closed by putting our suitcase on the ledge. There is supposed to be WiFi in the entire hotel but we had none on the third floor, none in the restaurant. We had to sit in the lobby to get good WiFi. We kept being told they were checking into it but three days into the stay was unchanged. The free breakfast was ok, serving scrambled and hard boiled eggs, fruit, breads, cheese, cereal, and a few other hot items. The restaurant is spacious and nice. And you can also eat outside. You can buy dinner, but the menu is limited, the portions were a decent size. Some waiters do not speak English which was a problem for us. Also, at breakfast today, yesterdays rice was still on the server which today held eggs. The hotel is a bit far from center city Budapest but public transportation is excellent. It is free to senior citizens which we werent told until the last day of our stay.
