Has bright spots, but generally underwhelming and expensive. My wife and I spent two nights here, and sampled just about everything the place has to offer. The entire facility is a weird dichotomy of relaxing luxury and a blatant, noisy moneygrab, and as a whole, we are somewhat underwhelmed if not a little disappointed. I'll break it down: THE GOOD: - The surrounding area is beautiful, and if you get a room with a view of the water, you'll spend hours looking at it. - The service is (mostly) impeccable, at least with regards to the front desk, concierge, cleaning and room service, and spa personnel. - The rooms are outstanding. Clean, spacious, quiet, and cozy. - The spa treatments are fantastic. We had the haram treatment and full body massages, and left feeling like royalty. - It's nice and quiet just about everywhere. - The bar has an impressive menu, and the breakfast buffet carries everything you could ever ask for. But there is also the MEDIOCRE or outright BAD: - The entire spa area consists of a few small saunas, a small cold-water basin, and a single large pool that extends to the outdoors. There are no hot water basins, and not even a proper jacuzzi instead, the large pool has a small area with a semi-broken "air dispenser". That's it. Honestly, this surprised me. I've visited many cheaper, vastly better equipped German "therme". - The famed Michelin-starred restaurant was stylish and (mostly) tasty, but honestly not as great as we'd hoped. We were treated to a lot of food, but amongst it was bland stuff like chewy lobster (with a consistency like rubber). Something in that six-course menu managed to upset our stomachs, which lasted well into the following morning. - The brasserie food was more down to earth, but the room (dare I say hall?) was unconfortably hot and noisy, and the waiters were rushing around like headless chickens. No-one bothered to actually present what we were eating, some waiters refused to even communicate if we didn't speak German from the first second, and the horrible acoustics made conversation almost impossible. It felt more like an airport McDonalds than an expensive brasserie. The entire three-course meal was crammed down our throats in just 90 minutes usually, we'll spend twice or thrice that time on the same amount of food. As a whole we enjoyed our little getaway, and the spa personnel deserve praise for their fantastic treatments. But for the money we paid, there is so much to fault with the Meierhof that we will likely never return.

Highly overpricedStayed four nights at Alter Meierhof and must say that we are very disappointed when comparing price and value for money. Rooms, at least at the lower floors with view to the sea, are ok though it is somewhat strange to have a bath (separate toilet) without a door. Breakfast is not impressive, e.g. the selection of cheeces and sliced meat are limited. The breakfast is not something you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Staff is nice, but lack overview. The spa area is too small and limited. If the hotel is full you almost sit on top of other guests in the sauna and steam baths (only these 3 options). Additionally, the pool was unacceptable cool the first 2 days and only just acceptable the rest of the time. Restaurant Brasserie have only 2 seatings (6pm and 8.30pm), not what we like to fit into a holiday timeplan.

Really disappointing and pretentious placeAfter a 2 night stay, we feel pretty secure in not recommending this hotel to the discerning traveller, much less to couples looking for a romantic, intimate setting to enjoy one another. The bed was great, the room excellent (after we paid 200 EUR upgrade, despite not being shown a price list), but the service, the food, the drinks, the ambience and the "spa" and pool area are all seriously underwhelming and bland. Think of any tasteless nameless lounge at pretty much any Airport anywhere, just with thicker linen, and that's pretty much it. We ate dinner there once, upon check in, but left after the main course, and walked 800 meters to an Italian Restaurant that served 100 times better food at one quarter of the price. I wish we had read the reviews before booking this place. If we had, we would have gone with an Airbnb instead, and explored the excellent restaurants in the area from there instead. I decided to keep this review short, so this is all I am going to write: Go for a different destination in the otherwise excellent Flensburg area, and leave this hotel in the dust behind you. For dusty and pretentious is exactly what it is.

A luxurious home away from your homeMy husband and I stayed on a two night prepaid deal including room, 3 course dinner in the brasserie, a accompanying bottle of wine, water as well as fresh fruit in our room. We got our room ahead of check in tine, a room upgradewith the beds made to our satisfaction, which was great as well as a personal greeting from the Alte Meierhof team regarding our anniversary. So this was in total very satisfying. The staff is very welcoming and there is a good ambience in the hotel. There were a few hick ups, that I don't expect in a 5 start hotel. I did inform the hotel that I don't eat fish and shellfish, but the staff at the brasserie wasn't informed. Secondly I did in advance ask for a neck supporting pillow, which never turned up. These are not big issues, but still if you inform the hotel in advance, and get a confirmation about the food issues, then one hope it will be sorted. However I loved our stay, the cosiness of the hotel, the great rooms and lovely beds, the friendly staff, the visible management and the feeling of the hotel being a nice workplace. Breakfast was very busy on the first morning, don't know if they were short of staff. Next morning everything was up and running perfect. I would recommend tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
