  Lovely boutique hotel in a great location next to town centre

  This is a really nice little boutique style hotel in a great location in a side street just down from the old city gate. The hotel and room are elegantly furnished with some nice modern art works on the stairs. The staff are very friendly, although you are left to your own devises in the evening. Watch your step on the stairs as there is a step after you go though the landing door. The breakfasts are lovely individual setting and the foof quality very good. With fresh coffee/tea/cereal/croissants/orange juice and egg dishes cooked on request. They have secure cycle storage for your bikes. The room was a little warm although there was a small fan. Speyer town centre in just round the corner with a lovely array of restaurants/cafes. The city gate is interesting and also the Cathedral(dome). The main street has lovely large flower urns and the whole town has a lovely vibe. This was one of my favourite stops on our cycle tour of the Rhine.

  It started out so well.... went down hill!!

  We were passing Speyer on route to Breisach, and stopped to look around. The city is lovely so decided to stay the night. Found the Alt Speyer hotel, 3 star. The welcome was wonderful and the owners gave us lots of help on what to do. All went well, we went to lovely beer garden by the river, and visited some lovely Churches. The accommodation was fine, the internet was mediocre at best, not good if you are staying here on business. Went down for breakfast which was very good, half way through, we were asked if plumber could go to our room to do some work. We agreed, as they said he would only be there a short time. We hadn't packed to leave yet! Finished breakfast, went to pack, plumber still in situ, couldn't use bathroom. While we we're packing, staff came up to take our bags down, we weren't ready, but clearly we weren't wanted. We were rushed out and ushered to our car. We travel a lot and so far have never been trumped as a guest for a tradesmen! Still there is a 1st time for everything. Some customer focus required here.

  Nice little place to stay, but bring a fan

  The Alt Speyer is quite central to Speyer and a quick bus ride from the train station (or about a 15 minute walk if you are in the mood). The hotel staff were friendly, and the room was spacious. There were a couple of issues, however one of them was not the hotels faults. The weather was extremely hot when we there, and the room was like a furnace. So sleeping was difficult. There was no air con in the room. After getting to sleep at about 2AM, I was woken by the folks in the courtyard of the hotel who decided to have a conversation at 6AM. Not a good nights sleep. The Wifi in the room was ok, and there was a tv too. The bathroom was a good size and clean. We didn't ave breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall it's a nice place, and a good location. Air con would be nice, or at least big room fan especially in summer.

  Very central, clean hotel

  The hotel is certainly located, on a small street. Rooms are clean and nice. Breakfast is very good and I appreciate that they don't serve a lot of small portions in plastic, but use glass recipients. They offer a place to store bikes, which is very useful in a city.

  Handy location for visiting the museum.

  The hotel is next to the museum, which was why we were in Speyer. The room was clean and comfortable, although the bathroom is fairly small. You have to drive into the town for restaurants, which is only 5 minutes drive, and there is plenty of choice. Try the back streets for great eating.
