Gooid alternative to Boulder centralA little bit out of Boulder in the canyon it was a delightful location to stay. Massive room with a fireplace and friendly staff. Great continental breakfast in the morning, really great chat with the breakfast cook and we got to know the Inn's cat who decided to adopt us and take a seat at our table.

Alps Boulder Canyon InnA lot of money for a once-charming, tired inn in disrepair. The bathroom light was a chain with two naked light bulbs. The patio doors were rotten and hard to open. There was plywood covering a door and more plywood and plastic on areas of the back of building. The front steps have hazard cones because the stones are not present!! Think twice! This place needs a serious makeover!!

Boulder tripAs far as the location is concerned, it is great! It is out of the city, yet only 2.5 miles from downtown. It is on a very scenic, winding road in Boulder canyon just opposite Boulder Creek. The physical building and property need some serious TLC. It is in disrepair with some unfinished projects that appear to have been started many years ago. However, having said that, the innkeeper was wonderful to talk with. She was very warm and welcoming. The place is a very charming, old moose Lodge that has lots of potential. It just needs the right touch.

Anniversary TerrorWe understand, from the manager, that the hotels owner has been trying to sell this property for 3 years and hasnt been successful. Its apparently clear that while the property has been on the market, the owner (s) hasnt participated in the general upkeep that the building requires, particularly in the harsh Colorado climate where the sun and general dry conditions can cause a building to deteriorate quickly if safeguards arent in place. Here is what we noticed and what happened: the front stairs to enter the property are destroyed, and this causes problems entering the building easily, especially for older people. The rooms have damage, as well, and there are cracks in the floor of the shower and the light doesnt function properly. Our hotel room deadbolt lock came off in my wifes hand and she was only able to exit the room by going out the back patio and going around the entire property and through the front entrance (this is a fire and safety hazard) Parts of the building are blackened, as if there was a previous a fire and anybody can see that the building doesnt look structurally sound. Apparently, the owner adopted a cat, and, like all cats, the cat has hunter/predator instincts and brought a dead mouse in to the lobby and dropped the mouse on the floor. Apparently, the owner sees this as being okay although the hotel is deemed to be a luxury property and doesnt seem to consider how visitors may react, or if lodgers have allergies or health concerns (I am allergic). The whirlpool was broken and we would not have booked the reservation if we had known how horrible the place has become in a relatively short period of time. My wife and I stayed at this hotel 6-7 years ago and we returned to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Were trying to forget these horrible 3 and a half days. The staff acknowledged our anniversary by giving us some bubbling apple cider, which was nice. Yet the conditions of the property- the apparent disregard and concern for us and our well-being were really evident when the manager, who wasnt wearing shoes, came to fix the door and offered no apologies or gestures of good will/condolences or acknowledgement that being locked in your room is a scary feeling, and we told her we were going to leave early and her response was that we may have trouble receiving a refund. Unbelievable.

Saw some bearsThis property is located 4 miles outside of Boulder. Make no mistake, you are not walking to town from here. Only road into boulder was blocked twice bc or construction and/or landslides. we Google mapped another route which took us on a 45 trip through some mountain dirt roads and was rather harrowing in the day--couldn't imagine at night. We still beat the traffic that was stopped by the construction. None of this is the fault of the property, though. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty good (waffles live up to hype). Our particular room felt small; kind of weird layout, maybe they could've worked out better furniture. However, we just needed a comfortable place to sleep. And that, it was. Bathroom was really spacious. Although on second floor, our window and back door opened up onto the ground (built on a mountain, y'know). On our second morning, saw a Mama bear and 2 cubs walking around just outside the window (they were too fast to get a pic tho). On a different note, the property was for sale and they had buyer's info right at the front desk. While I was don't think this affected the quality of our stay, it felt odd knowing these people were going broke running the place. Another note: it was indicated that you could access a running trail that runs along the Boulder creek, from the property. This is not really the case. First, you hav upe to walk about 1/4-1/2 miles down the highway to the access point (right at the construction zone). The trail IS cool and we accessed it fro. The other side, right at the edge of Boulder proper.
