Great stay. This was our first stop on our travels through Japan and it was such a great way to start our trip. Osamu was able to share with us a lot of detail as to what we could expect in Japan culturally and some of the basic things like operating sinks and toilets. His son Ken drove us to dinner and gave us snow shows and sleds for a winter hike in the mountain. Osamu also gave us a ride to the bus stop, when our lunch went long and he picked us up he realized we wouldn't make the bus and drove us to a further stop and waited for the bus to come to ensure we were headed in the right direction to our next destination. The food cooked by Osamu's wife was also delicious. Can't say enough about this amazing family and there awesome place secluded in this small mountain town.

Lovely Alpine retreatLovely location and we were looked after very well. The food was excellent and the family were very welcoming and went out of their way to look after us. It was a good base for walking the local area.

Great place in natureWe had a lovely time here in Alpine Inn. The nature all around you and the quietness puts you in the right mood. The hotel fits in smoothly and it was a pleasure to stay there for 3 days. The owners were great and helped us a lot - from providing an expected breakfast to taking care of the laundry to detailed information on what to see and how to get there. We had also a long talk on Japan which was very insightful. All in all - very recommended!

Lovely Natural Inn Among NatureMy friend and I stayed here one night and really enjoyed the place. The area surrounding the inn is beautiful, with forests, trails, and nature all around you. The inn is quaint and peaceful, and the owners makes you feel right at home. For those of you who associate Japan with big cities and skyscrapers, this is about as far away from that as you can get. We associated mostly with Ken, the son of the owners, who was friendly and extremely helpful and took the trouble to show us all the different waterfalls and hiking spots in the area on a map. He also offered us advice on how to get to Kamikochi National Park and Takayama. What I enjoyed the most was sitting in the communal dining room until late at night drinking Nagano-made beer and eating wasabi chips, and listening to Ken talk about famous Nagano foodstuffs such as soba, wasabi, and sake. I wish I could have spent more than one night there. It was a bargain for the price, at ~$50 USD per person, though we did not eat dinner there. I will be sure to go back, hopefully with my future wife.

Not to be missedWe spent 2 weeks in Japan. On the second week we rented a car to take the road less traveled. Alpine Inn is in a great location within the local national park. We took the half board option and we were rewarded with the greatest home cooked Japanese food. We cant fault the great hospitality provided by the family of three who run the inn, they are very friendly and informative. We were there in late spring but there was still snow a little further up the road due to the altitude. This is a very beautiful part of the alps. We stayed in some great places in two weeks including the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo. The Alpine Inn would not have the same star rating as the Hyatt and in fact we had shared bathroom facilities. But for us, the Alpine Inn was the best for the entire trip. A not to be missed experience
