  Weekend on the ski slopes

  We booked in here at the last minute after checking there would be snow on the slopes. This is a large hotel slightly away from the main town square and the ski lifts, and it was a good 20 min walk into the main square. But the reception is staffed 24 hours and we had a very large room with a beautiful view of the town. The staff were friendly (we spoke German). The breakfast room seemed rather crowded on the weekend, but there was more space on the Monday. Can't comment on the restaurant because we didn't eat there. The beds were the typical two mattresses pushed together, which is common in Germany. Overall, I would recommend.

  Such a pleasant place

  Wow, we had a great big room with stunning balcony and view, bathtub in the bathroom in comparison to other rooms which you can book in this hotel. So be aware which room you book, there are huge differences, not so many in price. We went there as a big group of apr. 40 people and I can state that for the same price there were huge differences in the comfort in the different rooms. Hotel and rooms are clean, bathroom also sufficiently big, breakfast were very well, plenty of variety. Not the best in the world but pleasant for big variety of visitors. Staff was very helpful and nice, no complaints there. There is also a wellness which you can use and relax what is a nice feature. Environment of the hotel and nature is also great, summer or winter, no matter what. Just great. I would for sure recommend this hotel if the price would suite you and I would like to come back.

  With the "restaurant" aside, the The Alpina Lodge Oberwiesenthal is quite a nice, pleasant hotel.

  This is a very nice hotel that is right off the Annabergerstr. (road #95) before the entrance to the town center of Oberwiesenthal when coming from the direction of Bärenstein, which I was. I believe that is the main reason for selecting Alpina Lodge Oberwiesenthal, because I would be coming from, and going back to, Vejprty, Czech Republic, which is just across the border from Bärenstein. Plus, the hotels web page presents a very nice image, and it had all the amenities I was looking for, including a wellness center, nice looking lounge, and a room with a balcony. The Alpina Lodge Oberwiesenthal is quite modern and comfortable, and I was very pleased with my room, which was on the western side of the hotel. The double room was quite spacious, and from the good size balcony I could see the top of the Fichtelberg, the highest point (2,400 meters) in this part of Germany. The lounge is quite large and comfortable with large leather chairs and sofas, and the lighting makes the room very gemuetlich (comfy or cozy) as the Germans would say. The wellness area had a real nice, large mixed sauna (typical in Germany) that I did use, and for the puritans, be advised that nudity here is the norm, and not an issue. The dining room, or restaurant is quite large and very sunny in the morning, and it did tend to be very busy for breakfast, which is a self-serve buffet. As breakfast buffets go in Germany, this would come in as OK. It had the usual breads, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, yogurt, and some main dish, like scrambled eggs or hard boiled eggs pretending to be soft boiled. Even the juice and coffee were self-serve. They do have bus-people to clear the tables afterwards, but they all seem as friendly as one of the nutcrackers carved in the Erzgebirge. The same dining room is used for dinner, and this is where I was really thrown off on my first night here. It is very well lit, might even say bright, and it too is a buffet, and there is only one main dish! If I had not just arrived after a long drive from Prague, and I was more familiar with the area, I would have bailed out right away. I stayed and grumbled my way through dinner in about 20 minutes this after a delightful 2 ½ hour dinner in Prague the night before and proceeded back down to the lounge. On my second night at the Alpina Lodge Oberwiesenthal I made real sure that I had a more conducive place for dining than here. With the very poor experience with the restaurant aside, the Alpina Lodge Oberwiesenthal really is quite a nice and pleasant hotel with its proximity to 95. On the flip side of that, it is a short drive to get into the middle of Oberwiesenthal and any of the ski areas around the Fichtelberg. Would I stay here again? I very seriously doubt it.

  Good hotel with a disastros restaurant

  We stayed here during a ski weekend. It is a relatively large but quiet hotel with elevator and wellness area/sauna. There is also a big play room for small kids and a nice bar with live music in the evening. Rooms are clean and spacious, however the fitting carpets might be a problem for allergy suffers. Bathrooms in some rooms are handicapped accessible. Reception staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a big parking area unfortunately for extra charge. Ski slopes are not in working distance. The restaurant is a disaster - uncomfortable hall with poor design, poor service, poor selection of foods.
