Excepcional.

ASTORIA RESORT A PLACE TO STAYAmong Austrian hotellerie top structures stands fiercely Astoria resort. Located in the beautiful plateau of Seefeld, needless to say that this magnificent hotel it is remarkable in the whole set of facilities that makes of an hotel a five stars superior one: an indoor and two out door heated pools, the enchanting natural swimming lake, the tres-chic and fully equipped wellness area, the gourmet five courses dinner menu. What makes the difference is the extremely rare fine taste that characterizes and surrounds the entire structure: the building outside as well as the warming common interiors and beautiful rooms are enchanted with this magic touch. Also I like to believe that the staff is part of this fairy tale: professionality at his best here is taken by granted, as I have already experienced in other top Austrian hotels I had the chance to lodge in. But in Astoria all is done with passion and smile. You can easily feel this empathy and share with the people that works here from the gentle presence of the director to the young girl at breakfast early in the morning , the girls and boys of dinner and the personnel at reception Special mention to our maître. To me is the biggest pillar to rely on and makes you want t come back. I suspect that who manages the hotel and makes the selections really does know it.

just what the doctor ordereddue to various coronavirus restrictions across europe, it was a last minute decision to travel from switzerland to austria... and the astoria was the perfect option for a 3 night indulgent break! welcome/arrival friendly, welcoming receptionist. porter parked our car for us and the luggage was immediately taken to our room. a brief tour of the main hotel areas by the receptionist. our welcome drinks (glass of fizz) was brought to the room within minutes of us getting there, followed by a visit from room service asking if we required anything; additional or different pillows, turn down service etc. all friendly and discreet. very professional. hotel/rooms/environment very nicely done - alpine chic at its finest, with attention to detail and finished craftmanship. we stayed in the karwandel deluxe which for our 3 nights was the right option; we were not in the room much, other than to sleep or get ready for the next meal on offer! turn down service, with chocolate, bathroom prepared for night time, morning service... all the usual things you expect from a 5* hotel. food the 7 course evening meals are fully served, no buffet - this may be currently due to covid-19 regulations and not the usual proceedure? the evening staff are generally attentive. our first and last night were excellent, however the second certainly left room for improvement. the wine list is heavily austrian based, which is unsurprising! still, it would have been nice to be given a few more new world wine options, but this is of course personal preference only! we only had lunch once, which was a 3 course light menu and spot on for midday (soup, risotto and fresh fruit mousse) nothing more was needed. cakes in the afternoon, could be better - in my humble opinion they tasted like freezer cakes and not freshly mad, but im no expert! breakfast if i have to levy criticism anywhere , its here. it is a very chaotic affair with no service staff seemingly responsible for any one thing, or area. you grab whoever is passing and hope for the best; nothing arrives, it arrives 3 times or the wrong thing arrives! we waited 45 minutes to be served one morning, this after numerous requests, with staff and we were left twiddling our thumbs and ended up grabbing our own bread and butter to tide us over, as we waited! we did address this issue with the hotel owner and her explanation due to covid-19 guidelines etc. are plausible and totally understandable and yet in all fairness, i ask myself if the current choice of system, will end up having a detrimental effect on peoples overall satisfaction with the service provided? we were not the only guests grumbling about the breakfast service, although perhaps others didnt mention it directly? i do hope the hotel finds a better way , with more staff. on a plus note, the choice of breakfast was very good and the quality of cut meats good. it was actually rather nice not to have to get up at regular intevals to go to the buffet! coffee.... hmmmmm.... im spoilt at home with a professional barista espresso coffeemachine and therefore admittedly hard to please! i missed a good espresso in the morning, as a automatic machine option just doesnt cut the mustard... but i do understand that speed and functionality are of the essence in a hotel... still... !!!! spa/treatments superb, really good. we had the whole spa to ourselves for 3 days - not a soul about! even being an english prude, i was able to venture to the nudist spa area without fear of being en masse! the spa is wonderfully decorated and of the highest standard. the steam room in the nudist area is one of the best ive ever been in. my husband and i both had a full body massage and were taken to the private spa chalet... mine was excellent... a big thank you to eva! it was a relief to have an intense, deep massage, with pressure, rather than a nice stroke and tickle... i get that at home and dont need to pay for the priviledge!!!! eva was great and can be highly recommended - i have regular chiropractor and massage treatments for a bad back and i would happily take her home! note that there are no huge corona regulation impacts in the spa area; no masks necessary during treatments, couple treatments possible together in the same room, no limits in areas... just common sense and 1m distance. which is fantastic and welcome. outdoor area/pool plenty of loungers and they were needed as it was so hot and sunny. there is waitress service attending to poolside residents, towels provided, as many as you wish and an overall peaceful relaxing place to dwell. we loved the outdoor brine whirlpool, warm like a bath, with a brilliant view of the mountains! bmw 840 cabriolet this was a fun additional extra for a couple of hours to explore the surrounding mountain passes and villages! its free to use, just reserve in reception (no limit on time/hours) and pay the fuel which you consume... why not, a bit of a fun cruise on a sunny evening! million dollar question - would we come back? definitely, without hesitation! its a wonderful relaxing, cosy and upmarket hotel, without being stuffy or overly formal. the staff are friendly and helpful - the night porter recommended routes and then printed out maps for our planned bmw drive, at midnight! we would love to come back after coronavirus and experience the full astoria glory, minus restrictions/impositions... im sure it is close to perfect!
