    One Night was Enough

After staying one night at this guest house we decided to move to another. The person who greeted us did not have the usually friendliness that we experience from other places. The room was basic and not very clean; it had a stale smell about it and it felt as if the bathroom/toilet had not been cleaned after the previous occupants. We had a view of the backyard which looked unkept. Was quiet enough but would not stay there again.

    1. Welcome Very poor. He didn't have a clue about my booking and had to rummage around via computer to find it whereupon he found it and immediately asked for payment. 2. Breakfast. It was 5.00 pm and I asked for details of breakfast for the following morning but he said it was too late to book as it didn't give him a chance to call in the necessary staff. 3. Rooms. We were a party of five and had two triple rooms, one much larger than the other. The smaller room smelt strongly of cigarettes. The larger room had a lovely view over the large garden. 4. Linen. Fresh, clean with plenty of towels. 5 Wifi. Excellent. 6. Beds. Squeaky but comfortable. 7. Bathroom. Minuscule with black mould around shower edge. 8. Decor, shabby and rather dated but adequate. 7. Parking and proximity to town. Ample parking and easy, pleasant walk into the centre of town.

    Clean and Comfortable

Clean, spacious room. Quiet with comfortable beds and friendly owners. Good pubs and shops near by, We had an ensuite but it was great to have an extra bathroom just next door. Wifi worked well through out our stay. A pleasant walk into town, fine for us but it may be a bit far if you're not a walker.

    Awful!

We had booked a double room well in advance for a weekend away with friends who had also booked to stay here. On being shown to our room, which was on the ground floor we found it to be extremely small, shabby and far from clean. It was packed full of mismatched furniture far too big for the room itself making it very difficult to move around the already small room freely. The bedside lamps were heavily stained and both plugged in to an extension lead that looked less than safe. The dressing table mirror was leant precariously against a window on top of the table itself. Plaster was peeling from the ceiling, it looked like there had been a leak at some point. The internal bathroom door had paint splatters on it. The toilet seat was broken and the flusher was temperamental. The light switch cord was black/yellow with dirt and there is a knack to actually getting the light to switch on and off. The actual mattress itself was very lumpy and not at all comfortable. The pillows were very flat, making it feel like your head was on the mattress. On a positive the towels and bedding were clean but I stopped short of looking what was underneath (I wasn't brave enough!) The following morning I made a cup of tea provided by the hotel only to find that the milk in the small cartons was off. It left the carton in a solidified 'blob' I tried a few to make sure I hadn't got unlucky! Without asking the owner asked if we would like a bigger room on the first floor for the second night of our stay. OK, maybe we got the worst room and this would be better. The only way it was improved was the walking space in all other ways it was the same. The shower head in bathroom dangled down the wall as the clasp had broken that it hangs on and we had to hold it over ourselves to shower! We had booked for 2 nights and wouldn't have stayed but as it was air show weekend we couldn't find anywhere else with vacancies and were over 200 miles from home. I know that this is a budget guest house but at £90 per night (not including breakfast) I don't think it is too much to ask that it be clean!

    Awful!!!

Room very small, dirt everywhere, owner very unfriendly, staff very unpleasant. I moved out after first night. I never come back here. I come for a business trip to Cambridge. I expected to be a good place. I couldn't be more wrong.
