Ski Trip for TwoMy grown up son and I stayed in a 1 bed apartment with bunk bed alcove for a week. The apartment was small and I certainly wouldnt want to have six people staying in it, which is what they say it accommodates. As my son is over 6 ft, we used the bunk beds just as a storage area and he slept on the lounge sofa bed instead. However, for us two it was fine and the apartment was very nicely done, with quality fixtures and fittings and everything you needed. The heated outdoor pool was a nice option after a day on the slopes too. We had just one issue whilst we were there with a noisy group underneath us but as soon as I mentioned it to Reception, they acted and it never happened again, so all credit to them for that. The residence is just a 5 or 10 min walk from the Bergers slopes, in a lovely quiet area, and it is an easy walk on the flat when you are carrying your skis. The same for the supermarket and a couple of nice taverns/restaurants. I would definitely consider returning next year.

50 for dust?!I arrived on my holiday with a smile on my face, then I was told there was no WiFi and it wouldnt be fixed until the 4th day of my week long stay, after paying my 400 deposit by the way!! I would not have stayed if there was no WiFi included let me tell you. So I spent my own money on mobile data so that I could use the internet when needed. Tuesday came around (the day he said the WiFi would be fixed) and again there was no WiFi. It will he fixed tomorrow. I gave the owner the benefit of the doubt and waited again and yet still when we asked about the WiFi it was not fixed and now will be fixed on Sunday, (the day after we left the hotel). Anyway, when check out day came around I was told I had to clean my room and the owner would evaluate my cleaning before checkout and take any dirtiness into account when returning the deposit. So he looked at the room and said that the room was very dusty. Please bare in mind that no rags or cleaning spray were provided. Was he expecting me to buy my own cleaning supplies?! So after his own evaluation of the room, he decided that a 50 fine was appropriate for some dust. Absolute joke. Essentially, this man takes your money and decides how much you get back based on his own opinion. Robbery! Also, if you do decide to stay in this hotel I hope you never have any questions about your stay, as the owner is nowhere to be seen 90% of the time. There is nobody at the desk, just a sign that says back in 10 minutes, which seems to stay on the desk for hours! Id highly recommend the resort as the food and service is great, but please stay clear of this hotel.

Skiing GroupJust returned from a week in Alpe DHuez staying at the Alpenrose and we have no complaints. We had 4 rooms all on the ground floor and close together even though they were different types. All were very spacious and modern for the number of guests we had, I wouldnt recommend the full occupancy though, we had 2 in a 1 bed apartment which was a double bed & double sofa bed, 3 in the larger 1 bed apartments which had the addition of bunk beds. A family of 4 had the 2 bed apartment which was 1 room with twin beds, 1 double bedroom with ensuite and a double sofa bed which wasnt needed. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Towels and bedding are provided but the beds are not made but it took 2 minutes to do this, the towels are large and good quality compared to most French self catering accommodation. Reception is only open at the times advised, we arrived a little before 2 so had to wait to get in but not a fault of the hotel. Some rooms were ready and others not so we put our luggage in a storage room and headed out to get skis, lift passes etc, check in was not supposed to be until 5 anyway! When we returned all except 1 was ready but this was not long after 5 so a small wait was no problem. Some of our group used the outdoor pool which was very warm and we also sat in the lounge/breakfast area a few nights where you can take your own drink/food to as long as you remove your rubbish. Things to be aware of, local tax of 2.50 per person per night payable on check in, deposit of 400 per apartment which was just shown as a pending transactions and there to cover any damage or cleaning. Cleaning charge depends on room size and started at 39 if you wanted to pay, we all opted to clean our own rooms, it didnt take much as they were spotless when we arrived unlike some other self catering Ive stayed in. The man on reception was very pleasant and helpful when we needed him but we didnt have many issues. The location is good for the Bergers lifts and you can ski to the top of the drive when you work out the way past club med hotel. This is the quieter end of town and theres very little apres ski nearby, its quite a walk to where the lively bars are up the hill but would probably be quite cheap in a taxi. This is probably the best quality self catering Ive stayed in and would definitely stay again.

A Great All-Round Ski ApartmentWe stayed at LAlpenrose in March 2020 for a week in the Type E1 apartment (Crystal Ski Designation) and really enjoyed our first experience of a self catered ski holiday. With a group of 5 of us, there was just enough room in the apartment where the master bedroom was a good size double with an en-suite, the second bedroom was a slightly small twin room (with sliding doors) and the fifth member of our party staying on the sofa bed. The apartment kitchen was what should be expected - small but at least useable, clean and modern. There were two halogen ring hobs (one in front of the other) so we had to make sure what we cooked used pots and pans that would fit onto the hob. The kitchen was pretty well equipped, a hint for those who have booked this in future - a top tip would be to bring a good kitchen knife with you. You can order bakery items from reception so that you have fresh bread and pastries first thing in the morning and the prices are very reasonable, would recommend anyone who stays to use this service. The apartment building is clean and again modern with a nice outdoor pool to use, with one free session to use the steam room. The Wi-Fi is free but pretty ropey - poor bandwidth/download speeds. This is probably to be expected from a ski apartment block which is offering Free Wi-Fi. Best to stick to 4G roaming if have the data allowance to use. The distance to the main ski lift areas of Les Bergers is only a 5-10min walk away and there are lifts to the rest of the resort and were never that busy when we were there (at start of coronavirus pandemic) even in the morning. You can ski back to the top of the drive to the apartment building, if you can figure it out, which will reduce your walk back to apartment to 2minutes. The Bergers commercial centre where there are a plethora of ski rental shops, restaurants/bars and the supermarket are a 5-10min walk away. The supermarket is bigger enough for anyone to buy their provisions from for the week. There are the usual free resort shuttles and so you can easily head into/back from the main sector of the resort. Overall, we would recommend LAlpenrose to anyone looking for a good all round self catered apartment in Alpe DHuez.
