lovely position and great baras noted its a pleasant downhill walk to town, which of course means a steep climb back at the end of the day.so maybe not suitable for all. I did see a hotel minibus and saw taxis visiting. We were 1/2 board with our trip, 3 courses with just a choice of main. all very German and not to our taste. we ate in the bar twice and the food there was great- only order the small burger they are huge - proper homemade burgers. Beer and wine were good and cheap compared to uk so dinners were not expensive. Staff spoke some English and rooms were decent size and traditional. small bathroom but good hot water supply for the shower. super clean and well maintained.

Superb foodWe stayed here for a week, we had a mountain view room on top floor. The room had a fridge which was useful to store our wine and sandwiches for next day. All bought from local supermarket. The walk to the hotel is elevated so not ideal for the elderly but you cant get the good views over Berchtesgaden without it being elevated. The hotel doesnt have aircon so can get quite hot in room. I asked for a fan and was provided with one.Berchtesgaden is a really pretty town. The food at the hotel was very good and as i am a pescatarian i was worried i wouldnt get much choice. However there was always a meat fish or vegetarian option

Pleasant stayWe stayed here for two nights and had a very pleasant stay. I cannot say we had a warm welcome on our arrival as the girl that booked us in and in fact it was the same girl that booked us out was somewhat forceful in dealing with guests. A cheerful smile, a happy countenance and welcome to our hotel goes a long way after a tiring journey and puts you in a good frame of mind for your stay, sadly all these were missing, to say she was efficient is a polite way of putting it! However, Elizabeth who was nearby when we booked in was very welcoming and helpful. Our room was pleasant with a great view over the mountains and there was also a nice balcony. There was a safe and a fridge which was a bonus, complementary water and plenty of storage space and the room was a good size. There is a very nice restaurant that overlooks the mountains and also a nice patio area where you can eat and drink. We ate in the main restaurant on both evenings and the food was excellent. Wiener schnitzel on our first night was really good and the second night we had the set menu which was also very good and so is breakfast. We were looked after beautifully by Andrea who was always so kind and helpful and speaks really good English, she is a real credit to the hotel. The young man, I think his name is Frank was very quietly efficient and very courteous. The pleasant owner is very attentive and comes round speaking to guests which is always a nice touch. There is good parking both inside and out which is free. We would certainly stay here again if we were in the area.

Awful service and depressing roomWhere to start? With the grumpy unfriendly reception staff or the depressingly dark and drab room? Yes the room was huge, with a giant lounge but it had clearly once been office rooms and there was no attempt to be homely or welcoming. A tiny skylight in the bedroom as the only natural light - but at night the green emergency exit sign was luridly bright. We asked to move rooms because we wanted to feel like we were in a hotel not an office but were told it would be 25 extra per person. We stayed one night, endured the mediocre breakfast and left as soon as we could the next day.
