UnpleasantI was really excited about my staycation at the Aloft in Durham. It was the closest hotel to DPAC for watching multiple shows. When I tried to check in about 4:30pm, my room was not ready yet. I believe check in starts at 3pm. The hotel requires guests to stop and get a QR code to park in the nearby garage so I just parked nearby in one of the free parking (on the weekend) garages. I really loved my room. My room was on the 6th floor that overlooked the DPAC sign and had a great view of downtown Durham. The room was clean and two bottles of water were complimentary. There was a couch and a chair as well as the desk areas. The tv was right in front of the bed and I later learned that it swiveled so it could be viewed from any direction. I also met a very friendly man from maintenance or housekeeping on my elevator ride down. I ran into him again after the show and he genuinely wondered how I enjoyed it. I do wish I got his name. The lighting was confusing as there was a master switch that everything was connected too. There was not a lot of sound transfer from room to room like the other Alofts I've stayed. This Aloft also doesn't allow dogs. The hotel is green in that it uses the dispensers in the shower for shower gel and a shampoo and conditioner all in one. The water pressure was not very strong. The towel could have used some fabric softener too. So why the two star review? Besides my room not being ready 90 minutes after check in time, housekeeping decided to come around banging on the doors on the floor, and asked me when I was planning to be leaving, then went on banging on the rest of the doors. I could see this if I was still there after the noon checkout but any earlier, guests should not be disturbed. Housekeeping could communicate with the front desk as to which rooms have checked out. The train is closeby though so be prepared for the trains going through multiple times a day. But there was also something beeping or an alarm going off in the hallway every 20 minutes, sometimes 10. Needless to say, I did not get much sleep. I will find another hotel for my next multiple show weekend.

Fun, modern hotel in downtown DurhamI stayed here for just a solo night after the end of a long business trip. It was great place to have a little mini-staycationI found the hotel very cute and enjoyable. There is a great view of downtown Durham from the top floors, including the gym and pool which I didn't use but looked nice. I enjoyed the little snack bar and the true bar while I read a magazine and enjoyed a cocktail. (If I had been there with a partner and friends I would have played the pool or boardgames they had available in the comfy common area in the lobby.) The room was pleasant and comfortable as I settled in for takeout and TV. Also, big thumbs up for the Bliss soap and body lotion in the bathroom! Smelled delicious. The free in-room coffee and tea were much better than what hotels usually offer. My room also had a mini fridge. I also noticed the same issue with lighting as another reviewer so I'll just echo exactly what she wrote: "There is a master light switch that must be engaged in order to turn on the bathroom light. That means that you have to turn the light on in the entire room to turn on the bathroom light. This would not be a problem if I were staying alone, but it annoyed both my husband and me to be awakened at different points throughout the night by the bright room light. "

Nice hotel close to many places in downtown DurhamWe enjoyed our two night stay this past weekend at Aloft. Parking is a charge nightly; there is no complimentary breakfast although there is a pantry area for many items to choose from for purchase. The hotel also has a small bar with a pool table and board games on certain evenings. Our room was fairly spacious with multiple surfaces for luggage and being able to relax on a small couch. The hallways and our room could have been vacuumed better as there were crumbs and dirt that were not cleaned up prior to our arrival. There was also an old sticker from someone's luggage on the wall above the bed that housekeeping missed. The bathroom was clean, and complimentary bottled water was provided, which was appreciated. Bedding was a little wrinkly, and I didn't care for the smell of the bulk amenity shower gel or hand soap, but I realize that is the brand standard and nothing the hotel can do about that. The front desk team was friendly. We encountered a housekeeper with a cart in the elevator; when it stopped at our floor, she never acknowledged us or made an attempt to move the cart over so we could get on the elevator and stayed on her phone, so we waited until the next one. We enjoyed the convenience of this property to the performing arts center and multiple dining options in the area. Kind of a high rate for what the property is. We'll probably stay here again the next time we visit our daughter at Duke.

Cool HotelWe stayed here for a night over the 4th of July weekend. It looked like a very fun hotel with lots of things to do inside. Unfortunately, due to covid everything was closed off. I would love to come back when it's safe and all of the amenities are open again. The decor was fun and different. The person at the front desk was so nice and helpful. I would definitely go back.

Great Location, Good Staff, Pet FriendlyMy wife and I stayed here for one night while we were passing through Durham on our way to Charlotte. It was a quick stop in so we really didn't get to stay long. The location is great right next to the ballpark and the
