    Magical....

The weather was pretty bad during our stay but I loved it all the same and would love to check it out for some skiing. We stayed in cabin #10 and unfortunately didn't fire up the stove. I had a memorable experience attended by a young women in the spa who lead me to jump in the pond after a seriously hot sauna session. I felt amazing. I especially appreciate the green philosophy and dinner were delicious as well.

Not quite what we expected but don't be put off

There is no doubt that this resort is pretty unique and well managed. We stayed for a week in August and really enjoyed our stay but it was really not what I expected and I think it's my fault rather than the resort's fault. It was just a little more rustic than I envisaged and there were some basics missing that I had just taken for granted. The time we were in Austria, the first week of August, it was extremely hot. Down in the valleys it was 34 degrees or higher whilst up at the height of the Almdorf it was more like 23 or 24 so from that perspective just perfect. The mountainside location is beyond beautiful and as daylight fades the views over the valley are beautiful. You park your car and walk around the resort during your stay. It is really quite charming as you meander through all the different little chalets. Each has its own outdoor area and many have tubs on the outdoor deck too. Breakfast is delivered to your chalet daily based on your order and set up either in the kitchen or weather permitting on your deck. It is served with crisp white table linens and the produce is all local and delicious. We also loved the food in the resort's main restaurant which is so authentic both in the design of the restaurant but also the menu. Highly recommend it and though on the more expensive side, well worth it What caught me by surprise is that the cabins/ chalets are really rustic and I felt the pictures made them appear more fancy than they are. In reality, the chalets are boarded in wall to wall pine upstairs and the chalet we stayed in (one of the smallest they have to be fair), felt a bit like Heidi's house. There is virtually no hanging space and the bathroom was bijou and again panelled in wood from floor to season. I am a city girl so with apologies to the management of this resort, I just felt a bit like this was posh (and expensive) camping. Getting up and down the steep and small staircase was also a challenge if you were holding anything bigger than a pair of shoes. Not complaining just observations from someone who loves luxury and came with slightly off kilter expectations. When I went back and read the literature they don't claim it is anything other than rustic. Highly recommend for the experience. It's pretty unique, an absolute must for anyone trying to find a slice of the real Austria and a very romantic choice for any couple celebrating anything. Just leave your Jimmy Choo's behind. Great location for exploring the local area. Plenty of fantastic walks in the area and so many beautiful lakes. Absolutely fell in love with Carinthia.

Lux storybook stay, just not so sure about the "Eco part"

We stayed over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Everything is very quaint, well presented and clean. We stayed in one of the older cabins and it was private yet having other cottages right next door. We were traveling with our dog and did a lot of hikes, although there were limited walking paths immediately around the grounds. Regardless, treks through the woods, endless fires and relaxing in the cabin. Breakfast and other meals delivered to our chalet. They even provided a small Christmas tree to decorate. My only real disappointments were they didn't appear to do much for recycling. We were separating everything and were told a few times everything gets thrown away (?) If this is true it shouldn't advertise Eco Resort. Also meals at all restaurants were very good, just do yourself a favor and don't get talked into buying wines while "they are cleaning out the wine cellar". We were led to believe we were getting a nice/fair buy on a very few expensive bottles of wine. Shame on us for not investigating and just believing; severely overpaid, especially one bottle by around 300 Euro. Shame on them and shame on us. Just be cautious and know what your paying for.

    Weekend getaway

I stayed in this property in February and had a relaxing time away from the day-to-day stress. Breakfast is served by a hut butler and you can order dinner also to your hut. There is a sauna, steam room and a hot tub with stunning view of the valley. There are great hiking opportunities nearby. Would book there again.
