    Manager is a Complete Maniac!

We arrived at VIP Saint-Jacques on 9/12/2008,and were provided a three bedroom suite. The facility was large, clean and very modern. We were traveling with another couple. We had the master suite and it was fine; however, our friends had one of the other bedrooms and their bathroom had several problems. The light over the mirror was burned out, it only had a bathtub and the shower attachment on the tub was broken and the small shelf for the toiletries was broken. Also, the second bedroom had a flat screen TV but it was not working. The next morning our friend asked the individual at the front desk if he could have these items fixed, and he said he would. We arrived back after a day of sightseeing at 9:00 and found that none of the items were fixed. Our friend called the front desk and was then asked to call the manager, Didier. He called Didier (on his cell phone which was provided by the front desk). Didier was very unhappy that he was called at 9:00 at night on his cell phone. He asked if our friend had nothing better to do. Our friend said as a matter of fact he did, he was on vacation and had a lot better things to do. The conversation ended. The next day, nothing was fixed. We went down to the front dest to actually inquire about the closest car rental location. My friend asked the name of the person behind the desk , he said I am Didier what is your name. My friend told him and he jumped out of his seat and went into a verbal tirade that was truly unbelieveable. He asked who was he to call him on his cell phone and demand things be done. My friend said he was given his number by the front desk, and had not demanded anything be done then, he wanted to have the items fixed the next day. Didier continued in a manor in which I have never seen a person react to paying customers. He said he should have thrown us out and that if he was bigger and stronger he would have taken my friend outside and beaten him. We were all in shock. We could not even speak. Here we paid to stay at an accommodation and we were being verbally abused. In short, Didier was a complete maniac. When we were leaving he threatened to call the police if we tried to talk to any of the tenants of the building (it is part owned and part rental). No matter how nice the suites are we would never go back nor could we ever recommend the Suites to any of our friends. Go at your own risk!!!

Love it!!! Wish I could live there...

Staying at the Saint Jacques was a perfect way spend the week in Montreal. I went with 10 of my friends and having suites with many beds was huge plus for us. For the price that we paid we would have gotten a much worse hotel elsewhere. Having a suite-style hotel was wonderful. The rooms are exquisitely decorated and there is a large well-stocked kitchen. We ended up buying some groceries and making several meals in-house (big money saver!). Having wine glasses was great! The living room had a big couch that unfolded to give us two more sleeping spaces. The hotel is located right near the touristy areas, but far enough that it didnt get really loud. It is essentially right between the Old Montreal and the shopping areas - perfect location! For food, there is an amazing breakfast place (that we went to 4 times!) and there are also many other options within a five minute walk - I suggest the crêperies! There were a couple things that I wish were better, but they were all minor: - There was no free parking, but there is a big lot right next door which cost about $15/car. - The staff were at times rude, but this definitely added to the whole "snooty French" feel. Overall, I am very happy, especially for the price that I paid. It very much felt like home away from home. Would definitely go there again!

    BEWARE OF OVERBOOKING SCAM

This hotel is running an overbooking scam. I booked for two nights online at ratestogo.com and prepaid in advance. When I arrived at the hotel they did not have a room for me. I spent a very stressful time trying to find another hotel in Montreal. I finally found a room at the Embassy Suites (part of the Hilton chain). They told me that this hotel is notorious in Montreal for bad service and running an overbooking scam. They sell you a room, take your money, and then sell your room to another vacationer. I have had to have Mastercard refute the charges. The owner of the Hotel was trying to charge me for a room I didn't even see - let alone sleep in. Please Note: This hotel has been reported to the Better Business Bureau in Canada. Do not stay here - Samina D Toronto
