Friendly owner and good value accommodationWe arrived at the Alishan Tea Homestay without a booking as were having difficulty accessing the internet. However, the owner showed us a couple of rooms for us to choose from. He understood that as bird watchers we'd be leaving before breakfast and consequently reduced the rate accordingly. He also helped us with our luggage (as there's no lift) and spoke good English. The accommodation is located on the main highway - near to a petrol station - and is around 40km from the Yushan visitors' centre (and around 28km to the gate of Alishan). A 7-Eleven is a couple of minutes drive away. Although our room did not have air-conditioning, we found that the temperature dropped on an evening quite significantly and the fan which was supplied was sufficient. We found the accommodation to be perfect for our needs and we'd have happily stayed a second night if our itinerary had allowed. We've added our review to this listing but there does appear to be another listing for the same property.

Learned a lot about harvesting teaTook the scenic route thru alishan looking at the tea leaf farms. We were taken inside of one plantation given an explanation of how the decide what leaves to pick and how the do it. Hard work! The we watched as workers were harvesting the tea leaves. The how they dry out the leaves. Extreamly interesting and worthwhile.

Outstanding budget accomodationOur bilingual host Dany was exceptionally accommodating, picking us up from the Shi Zhuo () bus stop, then the next morning taking us to - and picking us up when finished from - the amazing hiking trails through the tea fields. Then ofcourse dropping us back to the bus stop when it was time to return. Our first evening we were introduced to the family and enjoyed a tea tasting session. The rooms and hallways are spotless and shiny, we were very impressed. Hot water machines on each floor and nice quality soap & shampoo in the shower dispensers. Breakfast was ordered in advance and picked up from local Taiwanese breakfast shop, but our hosts also served us freshly cut fruit and their "real" hot tea, an unexpected extra. Would highly recommend Alishan Tea Homestay!

Simple, clean, nice locationLocation: few meters from Shizhuo gas station, 1 hour drive from Chiayi station. Rooms: spotless clean, good Wi-Fi, nice tea scent shower gel. Furnishings are very practical (not pretty), and only a fan, no aircon. Kept the window open to avoid stuffyness, so airplugs helped a lot. Hosts: very friendly and English/French fluent. In short, it's good for a night stay before a 40-50 min drive into Alishan early morning. Hotels inside Alishan park are ridiculously expensive, or old and damp.

Excellent HomestayGreat place for the Taiwanese homestay experience (10/10 recommend doing so when traveling in Taiwan) and Alishan tea - you can do a tea tasting downstairs. They have fluent English and French speaking staff, making this a great place to stay for foreign travelers (when they're able to come again to Taiwan) and Taiwanese-Americans who may not be fluent in Chinese back during COVID since the Alishan area isn't the easiest to travel in. A great alternative to stay in compared to the places in Alishan park which are overpriced and generally not great. Wish I booked a two day stay instead for more time to explore tea fields, but I had limited time off work. Rooms are spotlessly clean and obvious care and love put into it by the family who runs it, three generations living together. Hallways have the sweet smell of tea. Comfortable place to rest before (nice beds!) and after long hikes. Walking distance of view of sunrise over tea fields and sunset to see the famous ridiculously beautiful Alishan cloud seas.
