    Nice, Peaceful Hotel

Just got back from 7 nights at the Joanna Hotel. Firstly I would say that the tripadvisor rating of 3.5 stars is pretty accurate. It's not 5 star y any means but for what you pay it is definitely worth it. The food is decent, Not a great selection but there's plenty of it and some of the dishes were really nice. Usually pork or chicken and sometimes fish. Pasta, Rice and french fries. Loads of salad. Not too many deserts but what was there was nice. Fresh watermelon every day which is great. Our room was in the block 1 minute away from the main area. It was cleaned every day apart from Sunday as the cleaner had a well deserved day off. Most of the staff are friendly, Especially Nicos the gardener/handyman. About 5/10 minute walk to the main part of Sidari which has bars, markets and restaurants aplenty. Some great places to eat out too at reasonable prices. The local people are lovely and kind too. One negative is the wasps. Really annoying as they are buzzing around all the time. You get used to them after a few days though, Although it does put a dampener on things a bit. Beware of the boat trips and excursions offered by outside companies, Some of them are great but others are not. Check tripadvisor before booking. All in all I would give the Joanna 3.5 out of 5. Good Hotel but they need to do a bit more in terms of food and the grounds, Which I'm sure they will as this was the first summer under new ownership. Would go back but I'd check what has been improved first. The Pool is great too by the way and always plenty of loungers on offer!

    It's ok

This is our last full day at Joanna Hotel. When we arrived we got we expected; a very basic hotel and all inclusive. The holiday was what we made it; we've ventured out and this is merely a place to sleep and eat. If you don't like wasps, don't come! Wasps are everywhere because it's wine season, so they're flying around drunk. They are all over the food and drink area of the hotel which is outside; there isn't anywhere to sit inside. My partner got stung trying to get a Coke. We learnt quite quickly that the shower is only warm about 5.30 to 7pm which isn't ideal in the heat. I had to put my feet on the toilet seat to shave because it's very tiny. We used our towels to put on the floor to prevent slipping over; these got changed twice - once because we asked. You're provided with two hand towels and two 'big' towels which could cover a child just about. There are no snacks but you can go to a shop to buy crisps etc. Ham and cheese sandwiches are in the fridge at 4.30 but no one tells you this; there's a lot of finding out for yourself at this hotel. Previous reviews say this is a family run hotel and you leave making life long friends; not true. It isn't a family and we've only had one conversation with a member of staff the whole 2 weeks we've been here. The hotel got taken over by Summertime hotel down the road which is why this year it is an all inclusive; not very welcoming for the local restaurants and small supermarkets. Local food is amazing. You're allowed to use the other hotels facilities but it's a long walk and always busy. The all inclusive...a few spirits missing off the all inclusive list when we arrived; we weren't overly bothered. However on our second week the hotel gradually started getting rid of their stock and taking it to Summertime because Joanna shuts down at the end of September (tomorrow). We asked for some of the paid drinks available at the bar last night (redbull, Smirnoff ice) and they had nothing. Today they're putting away tables etc. WE ARE STILL ON HOLIDAY. The remaining people that are not leaving tomorrow are being moved to Summertime. There is a couple that have a late flight tomorrow that will get turfed out at noon tomorrow. They have a lot to improve on if they want to make it a successful all inclusive but it was a low cost 2 week holiday, and it didn't stop us from having a good time. The hotel is clean and the food is ok which is the most important thing. If we were to complain, it would be only about the lack of respect to remaining customers. We do not want the staff to be packing up around us. What harm would it be to wait until Monday when we're all gone? Last of all, me and my partner always returned our plates after meals, said our pleases and thank you's, smiled at staff and other visitors - we were polite. Other visitors, particularly in our first week, were so incredibly rude. They treated the all inclusive buffet as if they'd never seen food before - often leaving half of it on their plate. The buffet is in a small area, so in British form, we were always apologising for being in the way. All we received were stares back, pushing in, panicked faces as if we might eat everything. But this was noticed on excursions we went on as well; complete rudeness and arrogance. When looking at reviews for this hotel we noticed it was these nationalities that have complained about the food...strange as they ate most of it!

Basic we knew that but ...........

Dont blame the staff at all as they were very helpful (you know who you are) But . Food .. if that is what you call food Breakfast slices of spam ..I think .. scrambled egg that if you were to use it as a rubber mat it would work well. The eggs were fine just left alone. There were other choices to eat if you wanted fight the wasps. Lunch never eat a single one so will not comment Evening meal mostly chicken based and plain but not the best in the world but you could get by we did not eat there for the last 3 days it was that good! we were there for only 7 nights Drinks ., just try to get a fruit based drink you would have to fight the many wasps that guard the machine. Most alcoholic drinks had been removed from the menu white rum / Gin / Whiskey / and then Brandy ran out leaving vodka and ouzo. Room Basic Tv did not have any volume so did not bother with it. Furniture was from the 70s Beds stunk and just before we left spotted a member of the staff hosing a mattress down WTF Shower just big enough for a small child any bigger or you ended up wrapped in the Curtin. Not once was the room cleaned and not once were the beds made or changed WTF. Staff For what they had to put up with great. Friendly and should be treated better by the owner who appeared to be a very demanding person when he rolled up in his flashy car. They were told to clean the hotel as it was closing for the year but customers were still in the hotel. We were informed at 10:00 pm that we would be moving to summertime the next morning (the other owners property) so in the morning we brought our bags down and then in full view of the staff we sat down to wait to be moved Summertime. When we got up to go my wife noticed that all my clothes had marks on them. I was not the only to have these as another person had them too. It turned out to be beach that they had cleaned the seats with. They never even told us. The owner to his credit did give me compensation for the damage but I had to also leave the clothes at summertime reception WTF

Clean rooms, lousy fly ridden food

Supposed to have been at Summertime Apartments but this Hotel owned by same person. Rooms clean enough and adequate on a room only basis. Shower very small, could not turn round in it as got wrapped up in curtain which didn't fit very well and consequently floor soaking wet. Only had a small bath towel and small hand towel, no floor mat. If you like flies on your food then this is definitely for you. Breakfast, Lunch and Evening Dinner, never had evening dinner, did have boiled eggs still in the shell, thankfully, for breakfast. Had chips one lunch time before the flies got stuck in with whatever they carry and pass on. Ice cream different flavours available all day which is probably the best thing there. Only one scoop and one jug of water to rinse scoop not a good idea as some of the flavours like banana has chocolate in it. Why not have a scoop and jug of water for each flavour. What water is in the jug? Tap or bottled? The friends I travelled with tried the beer or lager or whatever it is supposed to be. They all spit it out with first taste, it looked more like washing up water, probably tasted like it too. These boys are real lager drinkers so they should know. Soft drinks aplenty but again all watered down and with what water? Tap or bottled? The water cooler was the safest drink as I saw the staff break the seal. (If the owner of this hotel sees this review he'll probably sack the staff for providing proper sealed water). There is tea and coffee available but I used 2 tea bags in a coffee cup to get anything like a decent cuppa tea. Thankfully I had my own sweeteners as the sugar jar made me feel ill just looking at it. All inclusive is a joke as the only alcohol available is rum, brandy, ouzo and tequila. Probably cheap water down spirits but again what water? Like I stated earlier this would have been ideal as a room only hotel as we ate out everyday in the many many reasonably priced restaurants a good 10 minutes brisk walk. I will post some reviews about 3 restaurants, namely; Napoli, Smugglers and Sunshine Hotel. I would rather pay a little extra above the rip off price Summertime Apartments charge and stay in a hotel where there is less risk of eating fly infested food. Sidari is a nice town situated on the Northern coast of Corfu and I am positive there are much better value hotels to stay there. Don't waste your hard earned money on a place owned by the owner of Summertime Apartments or Joanna Hotel Apartments as I'm sure this guy owns a few more like it.
