  Amazing ski trip

  Stayed here for a week. We were very well took care of by staff, who were superb. Food was excellent and rooms were clean. Few minutes walk to ski lifts and next to the local grocery shops, bars and restaurants. Very much enjoyed our holiday. :)

  Great Location Poor Owner Attitude

  The hotel is centrally located with great views from the front of the hotel overlooking the mountain. The small bar area was warm and inviting and the dining room was a little dated.The bedrooms are comfortably furnished and the cleaning staff kept them as spotless as possible as these to are a little outdated. The bathroom in our room had a shower, sink, toilet and bidet, which was disappointing as it is nice to jump into a nice hot bath after a day on the slopes. The bathroom also had a cabinet with socket inside for charging tooth brushes etc and a hair dryer on the wall. The bedroom had a small desk / dressing table and a double wardrobe with a safety deposit box inside which was free to use. The room and bathroom both had net curtain and external shutters which kept out the light and some of the noise. Although there is a disco bar across the road we never once got kept awake and we were almost opposite. This is not a buffet style restaurant although you could call the breakfast buffet style but was very limited in choices. Breakfast consisted of 2 choices of cereals Cardboard Cornflakes and Muesli which were the same every day, 2 types of yoghurt which were the same every day Natural and Strawberry which you spooned out of a large container. Ham and cheese with rolls and a few pastries, Honey and Jam was also available. The pastries most of the time available were from the night before. I am a diabetic so asked if i could have a couple of boiled eggs one day and they wanted to charge me 1 euro per egg which i declined.They also had a coffee machine and Pineapple and cranberry but they were your normal euro style and not juice. The evening meal which was not buffet but you had a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains which you ordered at breakfast for that evening and you had a choice of 3 deserts which you chose each night after your mains. There was salad available every night along with pizza slices. The starters were normally pasta or rice dishes but not very appetising. I opted for a pasta dish the first night and it looked like i had been served something the cat does in the hallway and you tread in on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.( Photo 1) As i do not eat a lot of carbs due to my diabetes i asked if i could have a ham and cheese omelette for my starters for the rest of the stay to which they accommodated and did not charge me but served it sometimes with a scoop of powdered mash, very strange. On the second night my wife did not like any of the 3 choices for mains but had to choose 1 so chose the one that said cheese and i kid you not she got a large plate of cheese and only cheese. (photo 2) The mains were never listed as coming with any veg etc and out of 7 nights we had 1 night came with brocolli, 1 night with chips, 1 night with powdered mash and 1 night with green beans the other 3 nights came on its own. For instance a pork chop or a turkey breast with nothing else. The sweets were not quite as bad and you could always ask for ice cream and usually you would get it. If you are a buffet fan and like to have your fill after or before a day on the slopes forget this hotel. The waitresses are great and they are also the cleaners in the morning. We got given a bag the night before we left with some food for the coach journey the following day as we would miss breakfast, it contained a salami roll wrapped in a serviette, a bottle of water, 2 small biscuits and two little tubs of jam, i kid you not. The next morning before we went the salami rolls went straight into the bin. At least in other hotels we were handed our bags in the morning and they were made fresh. There was not once during our stay either at breakfast or the evening meal any fresh fruit available. There was a bowl of fruit salad at breakfast but it was mainly tinned fruit. The heating in the rooms worked on the first day of our stay and then not again until the last day. It was almost as they put the heating on the day before and the day the new guests arrived. The heating was mentioned to the staff on many occasions by many different people but it was never acted on. I do not know if it had anything to do with anything but the hotel was brought by a chap last summer on the proviso the previous owner did the winter seasons and he would do the summer season. He was always at the hotel and always on the slopes. The new owner was a right arrogant person. On our last night we had gone to bed as a lot of people had early due to a very early coach pick up the following day. Our phone rang at 2100 and it was the new owner asking us to go down and checkout. I asked my wife to go down and she came back up with a chap we had met saying that we had to pay a 10.50 euro per person city tax and if we did not pay the city tax we would not be allowed to leave the country. I told her to get back into bed and i got dressed and went down to talk to the owner. As i knew nothing of the city tax and after being woken by this arrogant chap i told him i had no euros left and no credit card and he said "NO, BUT YOU HAD MONEY FOR BEER" at this i flew at him with expletives not printable here and told him to pursue me through the British courts for his money. Had i not needed the bed for the next few hours he would have got a lot more. He never did get his city tax and certainly will not now. As far as we are concerned the city tax should have been mentioned to us not only by the Crystal Ski reps on the transfer up to the hotel but also by the hotel when we checked in and collected during the week and not left till the eleventh hour. When we left at 0515 in the morning there was not even anyone to let us out of the hotel and we had to find a door to leave the hotel. I would never go back to this hotel especially with the way it is being run at the moment. Passo Tonale is a very nice little Town high up in the Dolomites. The ski runs are mainly on the South facing slope behind the village. Opposite on the North Facing slope is a Gondola that takes you up to Glacier and in the bowl of the glacier at the top of the Gondola there are probably 3 or 4 runs. From the Gondola there is another Gondola that goes right to the top of the mountain at 3000m and the views are spectacular over looking the surrounding mountains. You can ski from the top of the first Gondola back down to the town but be warned very narrow red and black run. We did not go the the glacier to ski but just to take in the great panoramic views. There were 2 really nice runs on the slopes behind the town and this was a blue on the far left that took you down past the husky farm and returned you to the main slope via a Gondola this run took approx 8-10 mins and was a great little run. The other of our favourite runs was a blue on the far right with 2 red runs above that filtered into the start of the blue. This was an absolutely fantastic run and the longest run in Passo Tonale. From the top of the red all the way to the bottom of the blue was approx a 15-20 minutes leisurely ski. You could do it a lot faster but it was nice just to take in the scenery. The chair lifts were good with only 1 of the 10 or so chopping the back of your legs the others picked you up at a very leisurely pace which was nice. Very very busy at the weekend but during the week the longest we waited for a lift was a few minutes. The slopes behind the town can be affected badly by the wind and on our last day our favourite run on the far right was shut most of the day with the 2 reds above this being shut all day. Lots of ski hire places and the company we travelled with let you choose whichever of these we liked to hire our skis. The one we chose was approx 600m from the hotel opposite the main entrance to the slope. They hired out ski lockers for 10 euros per person in the ski hire shop we chose which meant we had a 50m walk in ski boots every morning instead of 600m which was nice, The best place we found for apres ski was almost opposite our hotel and was called Nico's bar. Happy hour was between 1630 and 1730 where you could get 2 for 1. We were paying 5 euros for a litre of beer during happy hour. They did 3 different sizes of beer 0.5l which was 5 euros, 0.4l which was 4 euros and a 0.25l for 2.5 euros these were the prices outside of happy hour. Only beer was included in happy hour. A large and i mean large Gin and tonic was 5 euros. They had a resident playing music and mainly during the happy hour and early evening it was 70s and 80s music. We had some great times in there. There was also a disco every night from 2130 till late with a large 0.5l beer costing 3 euros although we never ventured across for the disco. The latest we stayed there was until about 2115. Met some great groups of people from many different countries and the happy hours normally turned into a dance fest. Snack were always on the tables all the time you were buying beer. There is a few gift shops a couple of super markets including a spar. A swimming pool and a place where you can try your hand at skidoo riding. 20 euros for 10 minutes which was approx 4 times round the track.The transfer time to Passo Tonale is between 2.5 and 3 Hours and think i would rather spend a little longer on a coach and go to Soldeu. We we enjoyed our week very much and it was great to visit Italy to ski for the first time. Would i go back???? No i prefer to ski among the trees and was put off a little by the non buffet meals in the Hotel.

  Ski Trip

  Highly recommended Hotel Eden. Great hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms and super food. Location very good too. Just enjoyed the new year eve gala meal, must have taken hours to prepare. Hats off to the team.

  Hotel Eden

  My wife , son and i had two rooms for a week. The hotel is right in the middle of this tiny town. Easy walk to lifts. Hotel rooms are basic but they do the job. Rooms always cleaned. Wi-fi worked well. Basic breakfast but choices for dinner. Best thing though are the staff. Very friendly and always smiling. They also have a room for skis and boots, but its easier to pay 15 euros for a locker for a week to store them right at the lifts than to walk back to hotel in boots and carrying skis. Enjoy

  Basic, clean and friendly

  I reviewed this hotel a few years ago but it changed ownership in 2017 so thought that it would be worth updating the review. Well no need. It is exactly the same with the same staff, the same type of good and the same friendly smiling service. If you want luxury dont stay here but if you are looking for a simple base that serves up plenty of food, super smiling staff and clean albeit basic bedrooms this place works well. A bonus is that is only a 5 minute walk to the slopes.
