    Charming place in Castelmola

We wanted to avoid the crowds and high prices in Taormina and instead discover Castelmola which is higher up the mountain (515m above sea level). Given we were there for one night only it proved to be a good decision. Anything longer would have been a problem because of the very difficult road up (narrow, crowded, some segments available one way with a construction streetlight) - it's not a good base for exploring around. We were there April 24-25 and it was Saint Giorgio day - the patron of the village. Due to that, we had our morning coffee with a breathtaking view and beautiful orchestra songs. The place - v v clean, nice room, warm (it was quite cold outside so it felt good that we had both heaters and aircon). The mattress was hard and helped us have a good night sleep. The host - extremely helpful, helping us with the luggage and the parking. He doesn't really speak English but he does speak many others languages on top of Italian so we got along:) Just one comment on the downside - WiFi doesn't really work (our room had a separate entrance, not within the main building so this might be why)

    Perfect place for a couple

If you want to spend one or more nights with your partner there arent better places in Castelmola/Taormina to choose. The staff is very helpful, giant and cleaned rooms, very close to the centre where you can eat delicious Sicilian food. The area is quite and very characteristic.

    Making it medieval

Arrived all hiped up for the complete medieval experience, although the owner showed up in a Toyota instead of a horse I allowed a bit of latitude here. After entering our room and taking in the ambiance of the place it was immediately apparent I was going to need to improvise and be creative to fulfill the medieval part of our stay. After all the pleasantries with the owner were out of the way, I started exploring the premises for medieval props to make my stay more believable. In the foyer a suit of armour stood erect......uhmmm,!!!!! While the wife was taking taking a shower I inspected the suit of armour and found a hinged flap in the crotch area, perfect I thought, carefully I lowered the suit to the floor , stripped naked and squeezed into it. Gone was the pretence of surprise as I clattered up the stairs into our room, my wife was just hoping out of the shower and she stared dumbfound at me in the suit of armour, look I said working the crotch flap up and down..... wanta get medieval darling? I guess all that metal and the flap tipped her over the top, she dragged me to the bed urging me to show her the mechanics of the suit. Yes the owners could do with regularly oiling the suit as it squeaked and rattled but we had a darn fine time playing knight and maiden in Borgo medieval,

    Up in the sky

Fantastic view - very friendly welcome (only italian spoken, no english, no french, no german) but could navigate the handover. Huuuge terrace, interior design simplistic. Bath is very spartan. Direct view of Etna. We used it as a starting point for some excursions - that was not a good idea - it takes quite a while to get to anything. As a location to go explore the vicinity it is really great. In the afternoon all the day-tourists leave and it is calm and you can have a nice dinner in one of the local restaurants - that was very enjoyable.
