  Basic hotel with excellent benefits

  We have been using this smaller sized hotel for the past 14 years to visit the shows at the 'Messe'. The location is very convenient as you're in Essen but away from the busy centre - meaning less or no traffic to go to and from - but the entrance to underground is virtually on the doorstep, as in 'ten metres from the front door' and the trains stop either at the west or south entrance of the fairgrounds. For the guests there is an enclosed vehicle parking inbetween the buildings where it is safe, free of charge. Rooms are basic, but spotlessly clean and most of them have direct access to the parking as they are in the building across from the main house. Breakfast good, simple, all that you need really. All staff extremely friendly and accommodating, no hassle. Inhouse bar which currently being renovated to modern standards. No restaurant, but just around the corner there's an outstanding croatian restaurant 'Spindelmann'. ask for directions, you will not be dissapointed. At around 87 for a single room, incl. breakfast, it is great value, given this is the rate for exhibition days.

  good for short stay

  Arrived very late , just in time to get at the reception that is closing at 22 h. Rooms are in separated building behind the main building. Rooms are basic, but sufficient if it only to sleep. Beds are ok, bathroom has all it needs. Breakfast was good , lot of different items to choose from. Problem was for me the noise in the morning. Even with a building between us and the main stream it was quiet nosy starting from 5h30 in the morning. But was cheap hotel, so price/quality is ok

  Arrived in the dark after a three hour train ride and to start off they did not have my confirmed reservation and therefore also not any available rooms. The front desk made all efforts in finding a room at another hotel in the city which also happened to host a motor show. They found another room but about 15 km away, another guest offered his room and said he'd be happy to take the room at the other hotel. I should have listened to the hotel-fairy and should have taken the other hotel to save myself the experience at Hotel Böll. The room at Hotel Böll is, not to be rude or nasty, really extremely basic. I do not have anything else to say but just to share pictures and you can form your own opinion. On second thought I actually do want to add some comments. I am 6'2" and the ceiling is about 4-5 inches from my head. The restroom smells really not clean. The TV remote is sticky. The room is cold and the heater is not sufficient to warm the small room, likely set low to save on energy costs. I am sleeping with a T-shirt, jersey, socks and a "Northface" beanie, and I am speechless about the bed quality. The next door room TV sounds as if it was jamming in my room and a real Hindernis to falling asleep. I can hear all sounds from the hallway and in the morning around 5:30a I wake up from other guest's morning activities. Breakfast I would say is below average with poor presentation and was not included in the room rate. The coffee comes out of a dispensing machine. The taste reminds me of instant coffee containing more chicory than coffee beans. Perhaps my expectations are out of this world but I am glad I just have to get by for two nights, and I'd definitely would never ever come back.

  Budget hotel for a boys' trip to Techno Classica

  We use this hotel because it is right next to the U-bahn to get to the showground in Essen, it's easy to reach as you come into Essen by car from England, and it has free parking. It's bed & breakfast only but there's also an excellent restaurant nearby

  No internet in room

  In their description says that u have internet all areas. Well,i didn't get it so i went to the reception. The old guy who wasn't there (see the picture on 12.11.2018 at 20:36)says it's not his job so he doesn't care.
