Onsen experienceI did not stay in the hotel so I can't say much about the rooms but my friends and I did try their onsen and were duly impressed. For all three of us, it was our first time to try an onsen. Our Japanese hosts had to teach us the "protocols" regarding the locker room, the bath and finally, the hot water pools. We were a little apprehensive about the nudity and the water temperatures. The 3 ladies pools (apparently a mirror image of the men's pools) had 39, 40 and 41 degree water. (Boiled human anyone?) But we were amazed at how pleasant the experience was. It was relaxing and, maybe it was psychological but, I felt like my pores tightening. The skin felt revitalized. Since it was winter, we actually wanted to stay in the water, but we were advised against staying too long. The nudity? No one cared so we didn't either. Afterward, we all had pink, glowing faces. This may be the secret to the beauty of Japanese skin. I have no idea how much this cost because our Japanese hosts took care of everything but I imagine it cannot cost that much, being a public bath and all. Would I go back? Again and again and again!

Pleasant stayStayed for 2 nights in cold snowy February. Staff were all very hospitable and helpful. They may not speak much English but they would still go all out to help you. Price was very affordable at about S$150 with breakfast and dinner provided too. Breakfast buffet was especially delightful for those of us who like Japanese porridge with the many different condiments. Dinner was in private rooms with a full kaiseki spread. We were stuffed to our gills and the seafood was so fresh. Did not manage to try the onsen but it seemed very popular with the number of guests headed to the baths each day. Room was spacious and in the Japanese style. Well heated and comfortable. There wasn't much scenery around but it was still pleasant seeing everything blanketed by pure white snow everyday.

Attention to DetailThis is nice hotel about 10mins out of the city. The breakfast buffet and dinner that comes with the room is very well thought out. Although the dinner is better with personalised service in a private dining room. Food is always different every night and although small in portion per dish, the number of dishes more than make up for it. You'll be stuffed by the end. They don't necessarily tell you what's on the menu so it's all a nice surprise. Breakfast is in a communal dining room as with many other hotels. I personally am not an onsen fan, and tattoos kinds make be off limits, but my mate who went there every day x 2 (and makes time for it too) reckons it's awesome sitting in the bath and watching snow fall. This is a perfect hotel if you want to visit Our Lady of Akita up in a small hill 5mins away from the hotel. We were there twice in 2 days. The nuns at the convent make you feel very welcome indeed. They also do speak some English. When you arrive in a cab at the hotel dyer your day is done, the reception staff are there to present you with your room key even before you ask for it. The politeness and service of the hotel staff are very homely, sincere and effortless. They really make you feel good coming back. Rooms are kept clean and tidy, towels are changed and the toilet & bath though small are immaculate. I will stay here again if I come by Akita. This hotel is fully recommended.
