Fabulous Hidden GemWe stayed for 11 nights at Il Cavicchio and what a fabulous hidden gem of a place it is. Frederico and Gustavo are brilliant hosts and they cannot do too much for you to make your holiday special. We stayed in one of the apartments and it was excellently kitted out with a capacious fridge, cooking and dining area and a great bed and lounge area. It had a much needed pool, that was really nicely done and maintained. [Note the air con was one of the quietest we have come across and very efficient]. Being in the lovely countryside made it also and the grounds and gardens were very well kept and there was lots of wildlife from woodpeckers to the frogs. The breakfast was also excellent and we don't usually eat jam but the home made pear jam was to die for. It was good base to visit other places such as Bologna, Ravenna, Dozza, Florence and Lucca. With Bologna don't drive in but take the number 13 or 96 bus from the island just inside Rastigano and buy your tickets from the little coffee shop by the car park [which you can park all day]. The taxi's were quite reasonable as it cost us 30 euro's to get back from the centre of Bologna and bus tickets cost 12 euro's for ten trips. Restaurants there were three good local ones the Al Cuntadein, Carosello and Osteria. If you mention you are from Il Cavichio you get 10% off your bill and in Italy you do not have to tip [we did as the service was great]. For food shopping the Co-op in Pianoro was the best with a great deli and range of goods [ we did laugh as we went a different way to it every time]. There is a market in Pianoro and I think it is on a Saturday [check with Frederico] and some great locally grown fruit and vegetables as well as a great little butcher [the Mortadella was beautiful]. For wine Frederico produces his own and it is delicious and for 7 euro's a bottle it is certainly well worth it [try the frizzante instead of prosecco and you will be pleasantly surprised]. One down side are the mosquitoes! Not in the rooms as they are very well protected with mesh, but outside so take some protection. Walking there are some great walks for the more adventurous and you can walk to the Al Cuntadein in about 25 minutes. Last we will go back as Frederico and Gustavo [and Said] we so hospitable and the location was great. P.S. We travelled from the UK all the way by train and you do need a car.

Close to BolognaFor our 2 night stay in Bologna weve chosen a place close to the city but still far enough away to be in the country side. The host is a very friendly man gevingerd lots of info. Hè even booked a table for us in a closeby restaurant. The room was not big but had everything you need. Breakfast had some local produces goods. When going to Bologna, do what we did, we drove to the nearby village and took a train to Bologna which is like 15 min away. No trouble with parking spots.

Everything you dream of!My partner and I stayed at Il Cavicchio for 3 nights, and we fell in love with the place. We chose the place because we were traveling without a car. We took the train from Bologna, and walked to the Agriturismo - Federico (the owner) even offered to pick us up from the station. There is a great hiking route in the backyard of the place, and Federico gave us the instructions for where to go and what to see. Also, he gave us restaurant suggestions and a local map. He was and perfect host - attentive, friendly and helpful throughout the period! The breakfast was great, the garden delightful, the homemade wine superior, and the nearby restaurants were very good as well. We would recommend this place to all who considers visiting the Bologna area!

Bologna Hidden GemIf you want some where that is a great location for getting into the city centre, going to Ravenna, Florence, Lucca, Modena, Parma and Imola this is a great place to stay. The rooms are lovely, a nice swimming pool to relax by, great hosts [Federico and Gustavo] and there are some really nice local restaurants within walking distance [one] and more within 15 minutes drive. The breakfast are good and nothing is too much trouble for them. We will be back!

Lovely stay on a beautiful propertyA piece of bucolic heaven located outside the bustling city of Bologna. Warm, country house feel with a large comfortable room. Large modern bathroom. Hosts were super helpful but yet knew to give privacy and distance when needed. Lovely breakfast display. We drove to Bologna city center for a walking tour with no difficulty. A lovely restaurant in the hills was recommended by the owner and thoroughly enjoyed. Didnt want to leave!
