    Unrecommendable

Room was spartanly decorated, shabby. Very noisy. Room . Bed was uncomfortable and noisy with any movement. Kettle and tea things poor and grubby. The water from the taps ran brown! No hand soap. I did keep asking for some and it was supplied on the final day. Bathroom floor and shower was dirty. The shower and the sink leaked onto the floor each time I used either. No extractor fan so the whole room filled with steam and damp. Not even a towel hook. Or a glass for the brown water. The door of the room could not be locked from the inside. No hairdryer or extra facilities that might be expected for £65 a night. The room was on the 3rd floor with no lift. I left the room at 0930 and returned after dark to find the door still propped open with a wooden wedge by the cleaner since morning with all my belongings in the room! Other days the window was also left open despite a fire stair leading straight to my room. Breakfast was average. My stay was uncomfortable, unsafe, certainly not worth £65 a night. If I could receive a refund and move elsewhere I would - of course, I couldn't. I was in town for a funeral of a close family member, as I explained to the host, but this did not alter their indifference.

Bad example of the British hospitality

When entering old fashioned fusty smelling carpet. First twin room given the beds where the type of single beds you find in a caravan on asking to move given a room in the extra rooms at the back of the house. Room slightly better double bed and a single bed, clean bedding , poor quality beds hard and uncomfortable, flat over worn pillows. Bath room extremely small, crusted up shower head, rusty peddle bin, mirror hung with a piece of green washing line. The room was reasonably clean but very dated and in need of decorating. The heating didnt work but on request the owner fixed it and sorted the shower head to a degree. The bed side lamp plug was broken. One redeeming feature was the breakfast but only served between 8-9am so dont go out enjoying yourselves to much because you dont get a lie in. You may ask why we stayed, well we only stayed 2 nights out of the 3 we should have. We would have left straight away if we thought we would get our money back but we had a feeling we wouldnt, so we put up with 2 nights. On the second night we hardly slept ending with bad backs and necks due to the beds. Although the owner dealt with our issues it certainly didnt make up for the poor quality at £218 for 3 nights when we could have got into a better quality hotel. Our reason for choosing that venue was because it was near the family we were visiting. I realise that these type of guest house have passing through trade but we would be ashamed to have visitors thinking that this was the British Hospitality Standard. Limited parking

    Shabby

Very welcome reception from host who was keen to promote Cambridge and provided a map. Room was very shabby, laminate floor incredibly slippery, would cause issues elderly. Very small sink in bedroom and en-suite toilet/shower so small that if you were of a larger build you wouldnt be able to close the door. The shower cubicle was cracked and not particularly clean. Probably the worst nights sleep Ive experienced for a long time with every spring in the mattress popping through. Very worn pillows; bedding was clean. Full English breakfast was good and freshly cooked. This property is in desperate need of re vamping to make it comfortable. Would not stay again.

    Very basic place

We had a late check in and when we arrived we were asked to pay additional £10, the owner said its because there are two of us for a twin room, despite of the fact that weve paid the full price on Expedia prior to the arrival. We were given a very cramped twin room in an annex near the actual guest house. The furniture was a bit dated , dirty ceiling and a very poky and small toilet with shower, with not enough room even for one person. Breakfast is very basic and portions too small.
