    Poor choice!

Very disappointing room: you couldn't swing a cat in it. Very damp everywhere, particularly in the bathroom as there was no extractor fan. Also some evidence of damp on walls and wallpaper. This is despite being on the 4th floor! View of roof tops, not very inspiring! We had to keep the radiators on during the day, despite it being quite warm enough out doors, to try and keep things dry. Breakfast adequate although there were weird tea bags without names or descriptions. But the staff were friendly. Location ok, not far from the main drag. But we didn't feel comfortable walking back at night, as there were several low end employment bureaux in the area. Evening meals available but the menus and the prices didn't inspire us, so we avoided them.

It depends on the room you are allocated

The room I was initially allocated was very very tiny. As I had booked for 6 nights, I kindly asked the receptionist to re-allocate me in another room. I had booked a room with double bed and the room I was given had only one twin bed and still there was no space to move. The receptionist was very helpful and changed the room in a double bed room as booked, immediately when I shared my concern. I could not make the change in the first night because there was not any receptionist on Sunday after 8 pm. We were given the keys by a person living at the building in front of the hotel. The rooms were generally clean. Two of my colleagues in the same trip were allocated spacious rooms. There was a bottle of water everyday, which was very helpful given that the shops closed by 6pm in Esch. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast very good.

    Friendly Staff

I stayed here during a conference at the university, as Belval campus is only one train stop away or a short bus ride. The train station is really easy to get to and also runs direct to Luxembourg. I bought a return ticket to Belval for 50c and you can get a day travel card, which seems to work on both the trains and buses, for around 4. The transport system is cheap, but not that well connected, especially to the airport. The hotel was nice, and the staff were extremely friendly. A few other conference-goers were also staying there and it seems there's quite a wide variance in the quality of rooms. Some have very small showers, whist others are more like self-contained suites with lots of space. My room was clean and acceptable, though the double bed was two single beds pushed together, and the shower was on a wall bracket right down by the bath, so you couldn't take a shower standing up. The only other thing that was a little tricky was that the hotel doesn't offer a laundry service. They suggested I try a place on the high street, called Pressing. Don't take anything there. They managed to ruin the fabric and my shirts came back smelling dirty. A bit of a problem if you're travelling with limited clothes. Otherwise, it's a convenient and comfortable place to stay. I had a fridge in my room, but no minibar or tea-making facilities. The breakfast was really nice, though. It's also an easy walk to the high street, which has many shops and bars. There's an excellent Lebanese restaurant nearby called Hotel Le Cedre, further down the same road. In summary, it was a nice enough place, probably go for a suite rather than a standard room if you're looking for a bit of luxury. The reception staff were extremely friendly and it's conveniently located.
