Yeahhh... no, just no.Well... where does one start. Got hungry late at night and decided to get some food. A man was hanging around the hotel and the moment I left he moved for the front door. I drove back and kept my eye on him, as a lady was alone at that location. While understanding he saw me and I could recognize him, I planned to leave and typed the address into my navigation to find someone talking to my window, which was closed. Man claimed to be the manager, which turned out to be true the next day. However, you're not going to believe a drunk man at 3 am on a parking lot, looking at his phone that he is the manager and is checking the system if you're staying there. He demanded I left, and i did because i was hungry, otherwise he would call the police. I was thinking of doing the same. Felt very threatening. Upon return i found nobody anymore and we returned to our room. I cannot complain about the bath, only the lights around it that flickered faster than any lamp I ever saw at a rave. The manager tried arguing with me that he did not threaten me and did not desire to offer any form of compensation, which is fine. He doesnt need me and I do not need him. Just be prepared, should you wander into a drunk man demanding your identity at night, on the parking lot; probably the manager.

Nice hotel, staff very friendly, would returnWe were visiting Westerbork on a house-hunting trip, and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers that are available. The outside terrace is well attended by tourists as well as locals. Although the hotel was in the process of being refurbished, the room was clean and quiet. We would definitely stay here again.

nice placeWe only stayed for one night. Reception was very friendly. The room itself (we had a so called "kloosterkamer"). was clean but in our opinion a bit outdated. (the night lights beside the bed were hardly usable and fell down) Same for the bathroom (very clean but outdated). We paid 136 for one night breakfast included, which is not cheap (we paid e.g. the next night in Almelo in Theaterhotel Van der Valk 111 for one night (huge breakfastbuffet included) for a large room with a fantastic bath room). The hotel itself has nothing to do with an old abbey. They only give it that name, because of an ancient abbey-brewery in the neighbourhood. We had dinner in the hotel. The service was very very friendly and the food was very good. The restaurant and bar are really very cosy. The hotels also has a huge terrace, which we could not use, re the weather... (The hotel is doing at present some renovations, perhaps also the rooms ?) All by all the hotel is not bad at all with a good restaurant and very friendly people. In the present situation of the room that we had, the price is too high.

The abbey room, a small room. The food is excellent.Hi guys, We booked the abbey room. this is not a standard room. The beds are comfy. So is the shower. But, the room is very small. If you want to open your suitcase, you have to put your suitcase on your bed. There is no cosy corner in the room. If you want to sleep. Close your suitcase. And put it on the ground, in upright position. You can rent a bike for 8,5 euro's a day. The food is outstanding. Top notch regards Schliek

Very pleasant stayBooked an arrangement here for 2n/3d and were pleasantly surprised to hear that for some reason (my birthday?? :-)) we'd had an upgrade. It proved to be a lovely room, with a sort of an upstairs (settee, TV, desk and bath :-)), a very comfortable bed and a brilliant shower. The breakfast buffet was varied and very good (I loved the fresh orange juice) and so was the dinner we enjoyed one of the nights. All the staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. A lovely place to stay
