Great Hotel for touring UmbriaWe stayed for 5 nights as part of a package through Great Value Vacations. Breakfast was included every morning. One dinner, a wine tasting tour, and a cooking class were included as well. We chose not to go on the wine tasting, so I cannot comment about that. Our room was in the original abbey, and was very beautiful. The wrought iron bed had lovely drapes on it, and the mattress was very comfortable. The room was tiled and very clean. There was a safe and a refrigerator in the room. The fridge had a small selection of sodas, water, and juice if you wanted something. The shower was slightly triangular, but it was not a problem in any way. The bathroom was very clean, but did not have a lot of space for toiletries. Again, not a problem. Those are just things that happen when you convert historic buildings into hotels. There was plenty of shelf storage in the room - side tables on both sides of the bed, a bench, a wardrobe, a desk, and a shelf near the desk. Parking is tight in the main lot on weekends, but there is additional parking on the other side of the hotel. The grounds are beautiful as well. The front desk staff were great, especially Paolo and Sara. Michelangelo, the bar tender was very sweet. If you buy a bottle of wine, and can't finish it, they will store it for you and bring it out again then next night either in the dining room or the bar. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel for 3 of the 5 nights and were very happy with our meals. The menu changes every night and is delicious. Sadly, the desserts do not change every night; it was the same 4 choices every night of our stay-tiramisu, panna cotta, creme caramel, and creme brulee. All were delicious, but I would have liked some more variety. Breakfast was not exciting because it is exactly the same every morning: buffet style scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, various breads and pastries, butter, jams, honey, sliced meats and cheeses, whole fresh fruit, canned pineapple, and prunes. That said, we were usually in hurry to get on with our plans for the day, and breakfast was fine the way it was. Our cooking class was at the Relais Il Canalicchio, a sister hotel about 15 minutes away. The cooking class was very fun. Luigi was great and very funny. I don't remember our chef's name, but she was very sweet. We made fresh pasta with a cream and sausage sauce. They modified the recipe for the vegetarians in the class. We also made potato surprise pie and put together pistachio cream tiramisu. Then we got to eat it all for lunch!!! The Relais is more picturesque as a hotel, but in a less convenient location for touring the area. The two nights we ate elsewhere were also fabulous. Ristorante L'Alberata is in Collepepe. It is a small family run restaurant with amazingly delicious food. It is only open Thursday through Saturday, so plan accordingly. Our waitress Elena was so sweet, her mother is the cook and her father also waits tables. Ristorante L'Antico Forziere is in Deruta. Fabulous food and artful presentation. Definitely worth a visit, maybe more than one. Recommended side trip-Deruta. Beautiful hand-painted ceramic products- different at every shop. Jewelry, bowls, platters, cups, clocks, you name it. There are MANY different little shops, with patterns for everyone, somewhere. Some are traditional, some are modern, some in between. Great souvenir. The wares are not cheap because they are handmade and hand painted, but they are incredible.

Hmmmmm......We were so excited to stay here but did end up disappointed. We'd read all the reviews which seemed overwhelmingly positive and that's why we chose to stay here. Best thing about the holiday was the lady on the front desk who was delightful. We stayed on a half board basis - breakfast was OK although the choice was extremely limited and things kept running out (bread, tea, bacon) ... if you needed to ask one of the 2 members of staff looking after the breakfast area for something let's just say they were not welcoming in their attitude. Some might say surly. One day the Earl Grey teabags ran out. I went over to ask if it was possible to have some more? "They are there", he said. "Um, sadly they've run out", I replied nervously. "THEY ARE THERE!" I was told firmly as he marched towards the table where the bags were only to find there weren't any at which point he strode off to the kitchen leaving me standing. There were scrambled eggs (watery) and hard boiled eggs. If you wanted fried eggs that was an extra 5 Euros. Omelettes were 6-8 Euros. Dinner was a set menu with no A La Carte options at all. I don't want to be mean so I'm not going to say anything about the food at dinner except I wish there had been more vegetables and salad. I like vegetables and salad. Sometimes all I want on a hot day is a salad but there was no salad available not even to pay extra for and vegetables were a rare occurrence during dinner. One thing we were looking forward to doing was sipping on a glass of prosecco by the pool so when we arrived we headed to the outdoor bar and ordered a bottle. We were then given plastic half pint glasses to drink the prosecco out of. It might be just me but drinking prosecco out of a plastic half pint glass was not part of my vision. The outdoor bar has the most spectacular view but isnt open in the evenings and the indoor bar has a tiny outside area with no view whatsoever. This was such a shame. In the end we took our own drinks outside to enjoy the sunset and cool evening air. We wont be returning and if youre thinking of going there then Id be tempted to think again.

Beautiful Hotel in Stunning LocationJust returned from our third visit to this beautiful hotel and it gets better every time we visit! We loved the new bar area with stunning views over the Umbrian countryside. The perfect place at the end of the day for a cocktail or a chilled glass of wine while you watch the amazing sunsets! As usual the staff were so helpful and friendly, the food was delicious , the rooms excellent and the whole place is spotlessly clean. We love the relaxing atmosphere and its the perfect place to unwind. Cant wait to return next year!

Absolutely SuperbThe building is an old monastery that has been beautifully restored. It is spotless inside, and the rooms excellent. The staff are wonderful, and go all out to ensure your stay is the very best experience. The breakfast is plentiful with hot and cold dishes. The restaurant is excellent and the food in the evening is wonderful, again the staff are very attentive. A stay at this hotel will be one of your best. Keep an eye out for Chippy the hotel cat, she will make you very welcome!

Excellent HotelWe stayed here for a week in September. The hotel, a converted convent, was lovely. Set on a hill overlooking the valley and views across to small villages beyond, it was perfect. All the staff were friendly and helpful and wore masks at all times. The standard of accommodation was excellent and the food was outstanding. We have stayed in Italy many times but the food here would take some beating. Contrary to some of the reviews, the menu was changed every day for the full week. We were half-board and had a choice of Starter and Main or Main and Sweet. There were multiple choices for all three. The only thing that didn't change every day was the choice of 6 Sweets all of which were great. I would highly recommend this hotel. The only negative is that you need a car.
