A mixed bagWe spent 2 nights here and that is probably enough for most visitors. The hotel is cosy and welcoming, the actual room was quite basic though. Reception staff were very nice, but the absolute highlight of the hotel was the evening meal provided in the French restaurant - it was absolutely first class. Breakfast was also very good. Dinner is provided upstairs in the French restaurant in private rooms - we were really surprised with how good the food was. The hotel will drop you into town and collect you too- we did the 2 nearby coastal walks and absolutely loved both! The paths are great and its an absolute must! Take the train along the coast and enjoy the views . (Onsite onsen facility was very good too)

Almost perfectWe loved almost everything about this place. A brilliant dinner in the French restaurant, an enticing hot pool all to ourselves, very good breakfasts and very stylish rooms. But we were very disappointed by the Japanese dinner which was nothing like as good as other meals we have had in three weeks in Japan. In fact in some ways it was the least good meal of our whole trip. There were too many dumplings, not very tasty soup and the colour and texture of the food was too monotonous. Overall it tasted bland.Perhaps it was just a bad evening, but when I mentioned it to the front office manager next morning he did not seem hugely concerned. A pity because the hotel has such a good reputation.

Best onsenIt's our second stay. The quality of onsen is the best, as the second you stepped into it, all your tiredness went away. The room is very luxurious too, comfortable, nice amenities, quiet, but the A/C was a bit hot at night despite our best attempt to lower the temperature. In our previous stay, the Japanese dining was super delicious. This time was not as good as last time but it's still good. However, during both dinner and breakfast, there's a table of 3-4 very loud Chinese tourists in the next room, which totally ruined the atmosphere. Not the hotel's fault though. We will go again because of the onsen.

Magical stay over ChristmasLoved every moment; it was a wonderful experience staying here over the Christmas period. We were picked up from Izu Kogen station by the hotel's free shuttle (also dropped off when it was time to leave). Spent 5 nights in a villa with private open air bath - used the bath every day, sometimes twice and it was everything I was hoping for. The villa looked exactly like the pictures except better in person, and I really appreciated the large climate controlled walk in wardrobe. The main building itself was also just beautiful, I bought a few things from the household goods souvenir store and the food souvenir store. There were lovely little touches everywhere that spoke to the excellent service and attention to detail, for example in the entryway of my guest room there was a different and beautiful bonsai each day. The amenities are great including the tea and coffee machines, the fridge stocked with complimentary goods (loved the variety), and the full set of branded toiletries. I alternated between the French restaurant and Japanese restaurant for the meals. The public baths are accessed from the gorgeous gardens - I also enjoyed taking a walk through gardens on my way back to the villa from meals and sometimes pausing on one of the benches to enjoy the view and the squirrels that were having a great time jumping around. Several of the staff had good English, most had only a little English but took great care in every interaction - all staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Japanese breakfast was delicious including fruit, pickled vegetables, salad, fish, miso soup, rice, eggs, tea and coffee. Japanese dinner was amazing and different each time including sashimi, cooked fish, shrimp, soups, dumplings, rice dish, pickled vegetables, desert - presented like a degustation dinner with 7 courses. One of the highlights of my whole trip. Western breakfast at the French restaurant was a champagne buffet with fruit, followed by soup and break, followed by eggs with bacon and sausages etc. The breakfast buffet had a selection of vegetables, pastries, yoghurt with accompaniments like honey, fruits, nuts. Coffee including espresso, tea, juices, herb water, and champagne were available. The quality of the food was outstanding. French dinner was a magnificent degustation-like set of seven courses showcasing local produce. Included a savoury tart, salad, soup, fish, mains (e.g. venison), risotto, two deserts - the ice cream was outstanding.
