    Decent Budget Hotel

Ratchada City Hotel is slightly old hotel but room is spacious with a mini balcony. Local friends had help to book the hotel for us, so managed to get a reasonably cheap price for it. But normal booking of the hotel is also relatively cheap as well. Walking distance to the Huay Khwang train station. But Taxi is reasonbly cheap in Bangakok. This hotel serves a lot of chinese tourists, because of that even the front desk can speak mandarin to serve these chinese tourists.

Cheap and you get what you paid for.....

The walk-in rate was much cheaper than what was offered online. Other than being cheap, there's nothing much that I can say about it. The hot water was not working and we had to take a cold shower at night. There was supposed to be 2 bottles of drinking water provided but there were none. We made a phone call to the operator who could not understand English and luckily my partner knows a bit of Thai, we were about to ask for the bottled water but it did not arrived before 15 mins. It's only because we were late in getting a room, else this hotel would be on the last of the list.

Do not waste money on the Restaurant

Had a T-Bone which came rare and was chewy. When mentioning it the waitress took it back and it came back to the table 10 minutes later - brown. Total waste of money. The side vegetables were half cooked, cold and tasteless. Bread was probably three days old and heated up. Stroganoff was some meat in ketchup sauce with onions on top.

Cheap hotel - you were warned

The best thing about this hotel is the adventure and the memories you take away from this place. Memories you won't every forget. I was traveling with my friends to Bangkok and we wanted to save a little money so we booked this hotel because of its affordable price and location next to the SkyTrain. Actually, I lied because I booked this hotel; my friends wanted to stay elsewhere. But my mom had recommended the place based on her friend's recommendation. To start with, it is impossible for a local Thai taxi cab driver to find this hotel. He took us to Soi 13 and when he couldn't find the hotel, we went around and asked local people on the street if they have ever heard of this place. Afterwards, someone heard it could be on Soi 18 and that's where we found it. Googlemaps did not help and, in fact, gave the wrong location of the hotel. Good thing we didn't get robbed. We were shown our two rooms at the hotel by a hotel worker. The first room was disgusting, absolutely disgusting. There was a huge dead cockroach on the floor. There were 4 other huge cockroaches on the adjacent bookshelf. The hotel worker tried to pick up the live cockroaches but missed a few which scurried away. My friends were so scared about the roaches I heard them scream from down the hall. I must admit, it was kinda funny, hahaha. At this point, we asked to see the second room. The second room did not have any cockroaches. But the closet door was broken, it literally just came off. We put the door back on the closet, so to speak. The curtains were broken too and came off. The bathroom had running water but looked old and disgusting. When I travel, I like to use a dirty toilet and shower so no big deal I guess. There were blood stains on the wall which was above the trash. We did have AC but it was noisy and looked old and left the air in the room feeling stale. The TV had a few channels in Thai which, well, I guess we didn't really care about the TV at this point haha. There were mosquitos everywhere in this room and one of my friends was covered in bug bites by the end of the night. I was so scared of bugs I slept in my jacket that night so he took all the bug bites. As to the location, the hotel is nested in a street which is not pedestrian friendly. The sidewalks are narrow on this street and there are motorcycles whizzing by you at dangerous speeds and, besides, there are stray sick-looking dogs everywhere so I decided to head back to the hotel. That was my morning walk. The SkyTrain looks close by on a map but is separated by un-crossable highway. We left the hotel in a cab. When we took the SkyTrain back to the hotel, we still needed to hail a cab. We had a booking for several days but decided to leave after the first night. Such a shame, I'm sure we would have had more memories if we stayed longer. Of course, the hotel does not refund any money for the unused nights. Thanks 13 coins. I didn't eat at the restaurant but I looked at their menu prices. The menu prices are pretty exorbitant and probably about 5-10x the typical rate if you go outside. I think the cockroaches in the room probably came from the restaurant. The fish in the restaurant looked old and sick. Anyways, if you are looking for a great adventure with memories you won't ever forget, I highly recommend this hotel. Thanks 13 coins! My friends won't ever let me live this one down.

    Super cheap steak,

What can I tell you, a huge, T-Bone steak for 159 baht. Oysters if they have is the freshest I have eaten in Bangkok. 39 baht a piece, much better than those expensive shops in Emporium. Shark fin soup for 99 baht. Onion soup for 19 baht. Don't get much better bang for the buck like this.
